BBQ, good food, and a warm sendoff before summer ☀️

At the last gathering of the season, residents of the NCS Residence came together at The Brick Presbyterian Church to share a meal and connect. The church’s weekly hospitality is something everyone looks forward to week after week.

These dinners create space for simple but meaningful moments together. Thank you to Brick Presbyterian Church for their continued commitment to being there for residents and helping build the support system that surrounds them.

College students are often balancing classes, work, stress, and uncertainty all at once, and things can feel overwhelming without the help to keep everything on track. NCS Scholars provides year-round supportive housing and individualized services so students can focus on earning their degrees, building life skills, and creating brighter futures.

For students like S., the program meant more than housing — it meant the chance to move forward with stability, and that made all the difference. “Programs like NCS Scholars truly change lives. I know because it changed mine.”

Did you know that more than half of CUNY students surveyed have experienced housing insecurity?

NCS Scholars helps students facing homelessness stay focused on their education by providing housing and supportive services that create stability and support long-term success. 🧡

Since launching, the program has already celebrated 14 graduates while participants have reported stronger academic performance, improved mental health, and increased food security.

Because every student deserves the opportunity to pursue their goals with the support they need to thrive.

For more than 40 years, Neighborhood Coalition for Shelter has been rooted in one simple belief: neighbors should help neighbors. Together, we have built a community of care that has helped New Yorkers find stability, dignity, and a place to call home.

Today, we're sharing an important next step in that work.

NCS is entering into an affiliation with the Institute for Community Living, .inc a mission-aligned organization that shares our commitment to person-centered care.

We’re excited to amplify our impact on those we serve while preserving what has always made NCS special: our deep community roots, our compassion for our clients, and our spirit of innovation.

The mission remains. The care continues. The community grows.

Broadway, music, and an unforgettable afternoon🎭

NCS clients recently spent the afternoon seeing MJ the Musical on Broadway, enjoying the thrill of live theater together. Beyond the music and energy of the performance, outings like this offer something just as meaningful: connection, joy, and the chance to experience the city together.

Moments like these matter because they remind us that housing is more than a place to live. It can also create opportunities to share joy and celebrate with community.

Community is built in moments, shared meals, laughter, and by simply showing up 🧡

For years, The Brick Presbyterian Church has been a steady source of care and connection for NCS residents, from weekly dinners to joyful celebrations and many moments in between.

Most recently, in February, their Women’s Association brought treats, decorations, and bingo for a special Valentine’s Day at our Upper East Side residence. More than celebrating a holiday, they spent time connecting with residents in a meaningful way. These moments help people feel seen, valued, and part of a community.

At NCS, we know that connection plays a vital role in strengthening individuals’ dignity and confidence.

We are so grateful for the Brick community’s longstanding commitment to showing up for our residents and building meaningful connection year after year.

On this , we invite you to think about what it really means to support wellbeing in our communities. At NCS, we believe something simple yet urgent: housing is healthcare, and we put this conviction into action every day.

Housing comes first, because without a home, other interventions simply don’t stick. We meet people where they are with individualized support and without preconditions, because we know that health improves when people are supported without judgment. Community is part of care, because NCS was founded by neighbors who believed that homelessness is something we all share responsibility for, and that belief continues to guide our work today.
