Some of our favorite summer memories were made at Dorney Park, where we spent the day with clients from across our programs. It was a chance to enjoy time together outside of our usual routines, make memories, and simply have fun. A cooling kit can help someone survive a dangerous heat wave. But it can also start something much bigger. Every kit we distribute creates an opportunity to connect with someone experiencing homelessness—to listen, build trust, and help connect them to housing, mental health care, substance use treatment, and other services that can change the course of their future. That's our work at NCS: meeting people where they are, providing immediate support, and walking alongside them on the path to lasting stability.

Thanks to the support of volunteers, donors, and our partners at ICL, more than 450 cooling kits have been packed and are being distributed across the city to help New Yorkers stay safe when extreme temperatures return.

As volunteer P. shared: "I think these cooling kits are going to do a lot of good. I really feel like these are well thought out and well put together."

Last week's heat wave was a reminder that extreme weather can be dangerous for our neighbors experiencing homelessness. Thanks to our community, we were able to distribute cooling kits, ice pops, water, and fans when they were needed most. But summer is far from over. More heat waves are expected in the weeks ahead.

Code Red means all hands on deck! As temperatures climb to dangerous levels across New York City, our neighbors experiencing homelessness face life-threatening risks from extreme heat. That's why we're coming together with our partners ICL to assemble and distribute Cooling Kits filled with essentials people need to stay safe during the hottest days of the year.

There are two ways you can help:
🧡 Donate to help us purchase lifesaving supplies for each kit.
🤝 Volunteer to help us pack Cooling Kits with our team:
- Tuesday, July 7 at 1:00 PM on the Upper East Side
- Wednesday, July 8 at 6:00 PM in Downtown Brooklyn
