Today is Portugal Day, a day when we honor and reflect on the contributions and legacy of Portuguese people.

Every June 10th, we're reminded that the Portuguese spirit has always been carried forward by people who chose to show up for it, wherever they are in the world. The members of our Executive Committee are a perfect example of this.

Rodrigo Carvalho, António Folhadela Oliveira, Nuno Guerreiro, Tomas Tavares d’Almeida, Dario Nolasco and João Salvação Barreto - each with their own demanding day jobs, volunteer their time to this Chamber of Commerce because they believe Portugal deserves to be visible and relevant, all the way from New York.

On June 30th, AICEP hosts a high-level conversation on Defense Innovation & Industrial Cooperation at SUMMIT One Vanderbilt, featuring speakers from the U.S. Department of Commerce, Orion Technik, Lockheed Martin, OGMA-Indústria Aeronáutica de Portugal, SA, CEiiA // Centre of Engineering and Product Development, and more.

Today is a proud day for us, Portugal, and our community: the UN General Assembly elected Portugal to the Security Council.

A stronger position on the world stage is a clear sign of the importance of diplomacy and the ties that connect Portugal to the rest of the world - and specifically to the city we're based in, New York.

We want to extend our congratulations to the Permanent Mission of Portugal to the United Nations, its team and Ambassador, Rui Vinhas, whose work - and that of everyone before them - certainly made this moment possible.

Ten months after Donald Trump and Ursula von der Leyen shook hands in Turnberry, the US-EU trade deal is inching toward the finish line.

The implementation text was finalized last week, with the European Parliament's Trade Committee scheduled to vote on June 2, followed by a full European Parliament plenary vote between June 15 and 18, after which the EU Council will also need to sign off before it becomes law.

For most Portuguese businesses exporting to the US, the 15% tariff is now the reference point to price and plan around.

President Trump has given the European Union until July 4th to ratify the trade deal, warning that tariffs will rise significantly higher if the deadline is missed.

Under the deal's terms, the EU would cut tariffs on US goods to zero, while the US would apply a 15% rate on most EU exports.

Meanwhile, last week, a US trade court ruled that President Trump's 10% global tariffs exceeded presidential authority.

The next round of trade negotiations is scheduled for May 19.
