“Everyday Politics in Exile: Collective Learning and Organizing of Syrian Women in Lebanon” is a new book by HIA Senior Fellow Inga Hajdarowicz.

It includes first-person narratives of more than 30 Syrian community leaders, and proposes a model of grassroots learning and organizing with refugee women that could be applied elsewhere.

NEW YORK — October 5th, 2026 — Humanity in Action, Inc. is pleased to announce four new grants totaling over $200,000 from the Endeavor Foundation, Inc., Rnr Family Foundation, Inc., Humanity United and Allianz Foundation North America. Together, these grants will strengthen Humanity in Action’s work to develop principled leaders committed to democracy, pluralism, and human rights.

Together, these grants will provide general operating support and fund HIA’s first pedagogy and methodology manual, a new Social Entrepreneurship and Civic Leadership Fellowship, and a transatlantic dialogue on memory and responsibility.

Walking Distance: A German-American Dialogue on Memory and Responsibility

What can we learn when we walk - and talk - across histories, places, and perspectives?

Humanity in Action, Inc. and Humanity in Action Deutschland are excited to announce Walking Distance, a new transatlantic exchange generously supported by Allianz Foundation North America and administered by Cultural Vistas.

We’re looking for four US-based and four Germany-based Senior Fellows to take part in this exchange. The eight selected Senior Fellows will be paired for one-on-one “walk-and-talks” exploring questions of memory, responsibility, racism, and antisemitism—and how these histories shape our societies today.

After 20 years of work, HIA Poland knows one thing for certain: change doesn’t happen on its own.

And there’s still so much to do. Human rights are violated on a massive scale. Both individuals and entire communities suffer as a result.

What poses the greatest threat to human rights today?

How do we respond effectively, instead of just watching from the sidelines?

Where do we find the strength to act, when crises, burnout, and the lack of spectacular results whisper: just give up?

That’s exactly what will be explored during the HUMAN RIGHTS FESTIVAL, organized to mark the 20th anniversary of Humanity in Action Poland.

We’re not looking for a single right answer.

Instead, we want to meet people from different sectors and generations, exchange experiences, ideas, and present a variety of answers and ways of taking effective action.
