Lastly, meet this year's judg....I mean Program Coordinators!

Education, Orientation, and Training Coordinator Jaya Aiyer is a junior in CAS studying Global Public Health/Anthropology with a minor in Social and Public Policy. She spent her summer interning at Senator Kirsten Gillibrand's New York City Office as an Outreach Intern and preparing for the best year of Project OutReach. During her free time, she has been exploring as many of the amazing parks in NYC, eating ice cream, and missing kickboxing classes that she signed up for with some of the PMs.
At NYU, Jaya can be found in the Washington Square Park fountain, sleeping in Kimmel 7, or studying (with no shoes) in the CMEP Lounge. She is on the E-board of NYU Reaching Out, a year long college readiness program that matches college women with high school girls, a member of NYU College Democrats, and works as an NYU Admissions Ambassador. She is also a part of Black and Brown Coalition and a former participant of CMEP's year-long Peer Impact Program. Jaya wants to help you discover your inner activist, develop your love of dollar pizza, and help find your community here at NYU! She is counting down the days until her third year of OutReach!

Service Sites Coordinator Esther Nzuzi Phambu is a junior at the Tandon School of Engineering, majoring in Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering. With her degree, she aspires to work in the beauty industry as a cosmetic engineer. Outside of Outreach, she is heavily involved in NSBE, the National Society of Black Engineers, where she serves as Internal Vice President. She also is going into her second year as Vice President of the Brooklyn Campus’ NYU Navigators Christian Fellowship.
Outside of classes, on weekdays, you can catch Esther in Midtown working as an Office Assistant at Anisa International, a beauty manufacturing company & on weekends you can catch Esther working in Brooklyn as an Office Assistant for NYU’s Residential Life in Othmer Hall. Her favorite show at the moment is The Bold Type. She's obsessed with BBQ chips, Argo Tea, and Aminé's latest album. Esther loves hanging with friends, laughing, dancing, karaoke, eating, and group fitness classes.

Communications Coordinator Mimi Doan is a junior in Gallatin developing a concentration in Computer Science and Civic Technology. She is interested in the philosophy of science and technology and understanding the asymmetrical distribution of power between us (users) and socio-technological conglomerates. She spent most of this summer working at Hubneo, a virtual reality lab and motion simulation center, and trying to understand how companies market ‘The FuTuRe’ to different communities.
While at NYU, Mimi was the Co-founder of Hakook, a non-profit organization that helps folk who are homeless, and has been involved with the entrepreneurship program through Stern $300K Graduate Competition and the Leslie E-Lab. When not engaging in discourse at Gallatin or lounging around WSP, Mimi likes vrooming through Brooklyn on her bike, connecting with people from all diasporas, and being a devout mother to her plant protégés. She can help you undergo a data detox and do your birth chart; she also invented overalls and the septum piercing.

Zaria Watkins is an MLK Scholar and senior in the Teaching and Learning department of the Steinhardt, studying Biology education (grades 7-12) with a minor in urban education. This summer she spent time back home in sunny California working at a district level summer academy designed to help low-income middle school students who have fallen behind their peers. As an education major, social issues surrounding educational disparities including the achievement gap and the school to prison pipeline are most prevalent in her daily experience.

While on campus she has become involved as the President of the NYU Black Student Union, an Alternate Senator at-Large within the Student Senators Council, Gamesday Chair for the Academic Achievement Program, and Philanthropy Chair of the NYU cheerleading team. In her limited free time, the self-proclaimed meme queen enjoys frequenting twitter, playing piano, eating way too many cupcakes, and lives for HBO Sundays of Game of Thrones and Insecure. This will be her fifth Outreach experience, 4th as a peer mentor and she is excited to welcome the next class of service minded individuals into the Project Outreach community. During Outreach you will see her actively plugging her many other organizations, so if you have any interest at all in cultural clubs, cheerleading, or have a strong sweet tooth she’s definitely someone you want to get to know!

Maddie Weikel (CAS '20) is a sophomore studying sociology. She has spent that past 11 summers attending and then working at a Jewish summer camp in Indiana called GUCI (pronounced "gucci" 😉 ) and is amped to be returning to NYC this fall. Maddie loves camp and wildin' out with a bunch of crazy kiddos, but she very much misses the radiant city streets, top-notch people-watching specimens, and, of course, the unreal food. When she is not at work, Maddie spends most of her time trying to piece back together her mind that is BLOWN on the daily, hanging out with kids from local synagogues, and "tagging herself" in the paintings at the Whitney. She is returning to New York this Fall to continue her involvement with NYU EarthMatters and with NYU’s chapter of Real Food Challenge.

Outreach introduced Maddie to all of her favorite people at NYU, and she is really looking forward to laughing, learning, and getting her hands messy with Outreach 2017!

Ask her about:
- Getting involved with NYU's environmental clubs
- Jewish life on campus
- Vegan eats (mostly doughnuts)
- Faking it til you make it
- Life as the Mr. Krabs blurred background meme

Meet Co-Peer Mentors Idan and Allie!

Idan Falek Falek is a junior in Silver, studying social work and global public health. After a semester abroad in Accra, she is back in New York for the summer working at NYU. She can help you find a job on and off campus, study abroad, and chat about conspiracy theories. Idan is excited to meet everyone in Outreach!!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Allie is a rising sophomore in CAS hoping to major in Politics with a lil minor in Social and Cultural Analysis. Her first year of college taught her that sleep is actually really important and often finds herself reminded of the amazing support system OutReach has provided her. One day, she hopes to work at a nonprofit, know how to cook real food, and maybe raise a dog or seven.
This Kentucky gal has been living in the East Village for the past few months while getting some internship experience under her belt. After a summer of sweat, pretending to be an adult, and killing cockroaches with lavender oil, Allie is beyond excited to meet and bond with all her (new and old) OutReach pals.
Let her know if you want to learn more about:
- Student government + how to get involved at the get-go
- All that lavender oil can do
- Internships + how to introduce yourself to your role-models
- Brockhampton [a really cool art collective (they prefer the term boyband???) whose music you should listen to]
- Google Sheets
- Easy ways to stay informed on a daily basis
Co-Peer Mentors Kathy and Keaton!
Kathy is a sophomore double majoring in Computer Science and Social and Cultural Analysis in CAS. She aspires to have a minor in astronomy, but may have accidentally completed a minor in physics instead. Despite this, she is absolutely incoherent when it comes to issues of science, but feel free to talk to her about identity politics and bad computer scientist stereotypes. She also is an avid adopted mom to a particularly misbehaving fish, and in her free time she likes to sing off-key to cheesy songs when she thinks nobody’s looking, read people’s astrological birth charts in unnecessary detail, and read some sick postmodern critical philosophy.
At NYU, she has participated in extracurriculars like the IRHC Hall Council and CAS’s Proud to be First. She’s very excited to return to Outreach to discuss issues of structural inequalities among minority groups, improve her understanding of New York through a service-oriented lens, and meet new people to join the Outreach family!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Keaton is a rising second-year student in the College of Arts and Science hoping to major in International Relations with a minor in Social Entrepreneurship through Stern & Wagner. Throughout his first year, he was a member of Rubin Hall’s (The best hall) Executive Board, a part of NYU’s College Democrats chapter and a participant in NYU’s Alternative Breaks program, where he had the opportunity to travel to Vietnam during his winter break to work on the social issue of food insecurity.
Most recently, he spent the summer working as a Summer Assistant with NYU Housing while also maintaining employment in Stern’s Innovation Labs. After a well-deserved break that included endless amounts of Shake Shack, Panera and Starbucks (Trenta strawberry acai with lemonade instead of water), Keaton is looking forward to what his second year at NYU has to offer. For the upcoming semester, he is excited to be working as a Legal Intern in the Criminal Division of the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern District of New York, for what hopefully is his first step in pursuing a career related to the law. In addition, Keaton is interested in aviation and is in the process of earning his Private Pilot’s License.
When he isn’t working, lip-syncing for his life on Snapchat or growing his professional network on LinkedIn (It’s a lifestyle), Keaton’s favorite thing to do is to explore the city and find new places to brunch! He is excited to reconnect with his OutReach fam and can’t wait to help welcome its newest members!
Things to ask him about:
- Stretching your dollar (aka not paying for things)
- Managing your time so you can sleep!
- Networking/introducing yourself to people
- How you can get involved on campus!

Co-Peer Mentors Joe and Sabeena!

Joe is a rising junior studying Computer Engineering at the Tandon School of Engineering in Brooklyn. As a sophomore, Joe earned the role of Deputy of Research and Development within the General Engineering Department, where he attempted to balance work life with a 19 credit semester. A few weeks into the summer, he was offered a co-op position at Con Edison as a part of their SPEAR engineering team where he will continue to work throughout the year. As a freshman, he was the president of his residence hall, one of sixty Intersections leaders, and named a Student of Potential at NYU.

When he is not busy working his two jobs, you will most likely find him wandering around Prospect Park in Brooklyn. Joe loves spending time with his family and being the loving but ever-tormenting older brother to his two younger sisters. He has a passion for what he does in STEM and loves trying to instill a similar passion in others.

Joe is able to help you with getting involved in student government organizations like hall council and finding an apartment in New York City. If you're a Tandon student, he can help you learn to live in Brooklyn, and if you are not a Tandon student, Joe can help introduce you to the faraway land that is Brooklyn.

Joe is super excited to be back for another round of Project OutReach, and he can't wait to meet all of the wonderful participants!

Sabeena is a sophomore majoring in Media, Culture, and Communication with a minor in Business of Entertainment, Media, and Technology. She's excited to be studying abroad in Florence, Italy next semester, but is even more excited to meet you all at Outreach 2017.
This summer Sabeena worked as an Educational Technologist at the Stern Berkley Innovation Lab and as a writer at a local magazine. She spent her free time hiking and attempting to play the guitar in the coveted "dirty jerz," which turned out to not be so dirty after all. She can help you color-code your Google Calendar, seek overcaffeination, and ask random people their deepest, darkest secrets for Humans of New York University.

Co-Peer Mentors Stephanie and Syanne!

Stephanie is a rising junior studying Computer Science with minors in Mathematics and Web Programming and Applications. This past year Stephanie spent the majority of her time teaching Computer Science in after school programs across Manhattan and squeezed in time to attend workshops through NYU's chapter of the Association for Computing Machinery and Women in Computing meetings. This summer she has been teaching middle school students at Tandon computer science, technology, and engineering and their intersection with making cities more livable, efficient, sustainable, and safer. On campus, she has previously been involved in Strive for College, Alternative Breaks, Colleges Against Cancer, NYU's International Rescue Committee, and the Association for Women in Mathematics. As a Computer Science major, Stephanie is interested in coding for social good, promoting STEM education to young students, and giving equal opportunities to children to learn programming.

In her free time, Stephanie enjoys running along the East River, catching Hudson River sunsets, and listening to the musicians of Washington Square Park while reading. If you're ever looking for her, Stephanie can most likely be found at any hour of the day in napping in Courant, scoping out the next best dollar pizza slice, or at a concert. She is more than happy to help you get involved on campus, find your passion at NYU, be your shoulder to cry on, and give you the inside scoop on where all the cutest doggos are in the city. If you're interested in spontaneous dance parties and finding the best ways to embarrass your friends in public, she's your gal. As a returning peer mentor, she cannot wait to welcome OutReach's newest family and help all of you cultivate your passion for service!

Syanne is a sophomore in Liberal Studies double majoring in politics and psychology. She spent her long summer taking classes, doing research with Columbia on Post Incarceration Syndrome, interning for a local city council campaign, and waitressing at the local burger joint (she would treat you to free food, but the place sucks so you wouldn’t want that). Outside of her more serious activities, Syanne enjoys making a fool out of herself on the internet through her youtube channel. A lot of her content is NYU related, so if you’re looking for something to get you even more excited for your freshman year definitely check that out! Outside of that, she is usually shopping, eating pizza, sitting in an Uber (that she cannot afford) to avoid walking at all costs or dreaming about Kevin Spacey. Probably just thinking about Kevin Spacey if we’re being honest.

During the school year, Syanne is a member of NYU’s College Democrats, Two Birds One Stone, and NYU Reaching Out—all of which she loves very much. Unfortunately, Syanne will be leaving right after Outreach to study away in Florence 😔 Even though she is so looking forward to the Italian pizza and Insta-worthy views, this means that you don’t have much time to get to know her before she leaves!! So you should talk to her and she’ll probably tell you a dumb joke or something, but it’ll be great.

So that’s Syanne! She is SO excited to be returning to Outreach because she loves the PM’s with all of her heart and cannot wait to love on all the incoming participants to make their experience as amazing as hers was!

Co-Peer Mentors Lois and Lorean!

Lois Evans is a rising junior/LSP survivor majoring in English at CAS. This is her second year as a Peer Mentor, and she’s so excited to meet more service-minded folks and volunteer around the city.

She has spent her summer working at the beach, writing essays, and posting embarrassing videos of her family on Snapchat. When she isn’t laughing at gifs or thinking up stories, Lois can be found cuddling her two dogs whilst reading a novel. She’s always reading something, and is more than willing to swap books!

If anyone has questions about the Liberal Studies to CAS transition, Netflix recommendations, or the LIRR (pronounced L-I-double R) please feel free to hit her up. Have a great rest of the summer, everyone, and get pumped for PO!

Lorean Winter (Gallatin '20) is a sophomore on the pre-med track and developing a concentration around global public health and psychology and calling it "Self-Care." Lorean didn't go home to Sydney, Australia over the summer and stayed in the city working as a Summer Assistant at Alumni Hall and an Aide at the Client Services Center. She had a mini vacation to Niagara Falls Ontario for a weekend and recommends the trip to everyone (except maybe not the 11-hour bus ride). Lorean is very excited to come back to Project Outreach this year after falling in love with the program in her participant year of 2016.
She can help international students find cheaper health insurance and has just learned how to survive a snowy winter

Meet Co-Peer Mentors Robert and Alia!

Robert Ramkishun is a senior studying Media, Culture, and Communication at Steinhardt. This summer he interned at CBS Interactive on the Digital Sales Operations team, mastering all things advertising including the art of screenshot decks and the complex series of acronyms used in the business. He spent most of his free time this summer listening to SZA’s album on his fire escape, laying in parks with Steph, or making Spotify playlists with clever titles (or so he thinks).

At NYU, Robert can be found on Kimmel 7, studying, eating a sandwich he got using Peer-Mentor Syanne’s meal plan or sobbing over bad midterm grades with Project OutReach alums from the past few years. He has volunteered with Change For Kids, an organization that partners with schools in New York City, as a Literacy Tutor to help elementary school children improve their reading level. Last year he served as one of the Community Service supervisors for the Admissions Ambassador program and will be acting as one of the program’s Marketing and Recruitment supervisors this year (so prepare to be bombarded by posters, emails, Instagram posts, and tweets). Robert would love to help you cultivate your passion for service, find the best Ramen places in the city, and hold your hand as you change your major five times during the first semester (don’t worry he went through six majors). He’s counting down the days until he can meet the newest members of the Project OutReach family.
