Autumn Abundance at the Sixth Street CSA!

The fall harvest is in full swing! Join us today, Wednesday, October 14th, for another week of fresh, seasonal goodness at the CSA.

Farm spotlight: Sweet peppers from Star Route Farm NY! We’re celebrating the colorful, flavorful produce that brings so much variety to our weekly shares.

This week’s share includes: Shallots, chioggia beets, oregano, rainbow carrots, scallions, fennel, mint, kabocha squash, and bok choy.

Loisaida due to the anticipated storms tomorrow, we are postponing our mural unveiling event and are looking to identify a date in the coming weeks. But definitely come by the center in the coming weeks so you can see the piece firsthand. Look forward to celebrating and meeting the artist soon.

Just a reminder that CSA pickup is tomorrow, Wednesday, October 7!

This week, we’re highlighting sweet peppers from Blackyard Farm bringing beautiful, flavorful produce to our CSA community.

This week’s share includes: tulsi (holy basil), habanero, sweet peppers from Black Yard Farm, purple/white onion, arugula, red potatoes, corn, delicata squash, yellow carrots, and broccoli.

A new mural is coming to Sixth Street!

Artist Dasic Fernández is painting the entire face of our building, and on Sunday 10/11 we’re unveiling it. It’s a work inspired by climate resilience, on the eve of Indigenous Peoples’ Day and in the final days of Hispanic Heritage Month.

Come meet the artist, hear live music, and have some snacks. Free and open to all, bring the whole family.

Hispanic Heritage is more than celebrating where we come from. It is remembering who fought for us to be here. ✊🏽

This Hispanic Heritage Month, Sixth Street Community Center invites you to a special FREE screening of ¡Palante, Siempre Pa’lante! The Young Lords as we celebrate the film’s 30th anniversary.

The Young Lords organized around the issues impacting Puerto Rican and Latino communities—from healthcare and education to housing, poverty, and community control. Their story is one of resistance, organizing, cultural pride, and people refusing to accept that their communities deserved less.

That history is part of our Hispanic heritage, too.

Following the screening, join us for an intimate conversation and Q&A with Iris Morales, former Young Lord and producer of ¡Palante, Siempre Pa’lante!, as we reflect on the movement, the making of the film, and what this history can teach us today.

We are still dreaming of the beautiful experience we got to share with our community here in Loisaida and far beyond…in celebration of a singular talent, . The Sixth Street Community Center had the honor of showcasing his art, snapshots of his trajectory in the neighborhood, and countless works across mediums, while hearing from the artist himself and so many who he inspired. This video captures the connection that spans decades, generations, backgrounds, and tastes. It was an evening that captures everything we hold dear here at …community, preserving what makes this community sacred, and showing up for each other like no one else can. If you missed it, we hope this reel brightens your day just as much as this celebration lit up our space! Thank you for your contributions and heart !

We’ll be featuring okra from Halal Pastures and sharing a simple Bamia recipe to help you enjoy this amazing nutritious vegetable at home.

This week’s share also includes carrots, kale, sweet peppers, okra, Aji Dulce, tomato slicers, radicchio, lemongrass, purple potatoes, spaghetti squash, and cherry tomatoes.
