ARLIS New York

ARLIS New York Chapter programs are great opportunities to meet fellow art library and visual art information colleagues from the area.

The New York Chapter of the Art Libraries Society of North America, an organization that fosters excellence in art librarianship and the visual arts, meets several times a year either virtually or in-person for professional development opportunities, networking, or tours of the various relevant institutions in the New York City metropolitan area. Members typically include but are not limited to ar

t librarians and visual resource curators, both active and retired, from academic, museum, public, and other special libraries, as well as specialized book dealers and graduate students in library and information science from the New York City area. The Celine Palatsky Travel Award is given annually to support member travel to the ARLIS/NA annual conference and promote professional development. The association published ARLIS/NY News twice a year to report on news, member projects, and events in the community until 2012. An archive of past issues is available to chapter members only.

The Celine Palatsky Travel Award Committee is pleased to announce Flannery Cusick as the award's 2024 recipient. This year's $1200 award supports attendance at the 52nd annual ARLIS/NA conference held in Pittsburgh April 2-5, 2024.

Flannery Cusick is currently a Graduate Assistant at the Ricker Library at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and previously interned in access services at the Frick Art Reference Library, during which they became an active member of the New York Chapter and wrote for the chapter newsletter. Prior to their work in libraries, Flannery worked as a Research Assistant at the Institute for Policy Research at Northwestern University. Flannery has been accepted to present at this year's conference, and the committee was impressed by their explicit intention to engage in a "mutually beneficial" relationship with ARLIS. We're happy to support Flannery in building a career in our field.
The ARLIS/NA New York Chapter Travel Award was initiated in 1993 and renamed in 2000 in memory of Celine Palatsky, who served as Associate Museum Librarian of the Thomas J. Watson Library of the Metropolitan Museum of Art from 1971 to 1999 and as ARLIS/NA New York Treasurer for fourteen consecutive years. We encourage members to donate in support of the Celine Palatsky Travel Award to promote professional development of our community through conference attendance.

Congratulations again to Flannery!

WE NEED YOUR VOTE! Approve changes to the ARLIS/NY chapter bylaws by January 31, 2024.

Update 1: NOMINATION PROCEDURES.
The updated Chapter Bylaws will allow us to create a standing Nominating Committee, independent of the Executive Board. Moreover, all executive board officers will be nominated and elected using a ballot instead of having the slate of new officers elected by acclamation.

Update 2: NEW D.E.I.A. POSITION
The updated Bylaws will also allow us to create a new DEIA Coordinator as the third member-at-large.

Update 3: EXIT PROCEDURES
The updated Bylaws will cover ARLIS/NA recommendations of best practices related to removal, resignation, and vacancies of chapter’s board positions.
