Students had a wonderful experience making their own trail mix, a fun and healthy snack! With pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, walnuts, pistachios, dried blueberries, dried cherries, pretzels and semi-sweet chocolate chips, they had the opportunity to select their own ingredients and create a customized trail mix. Students were most excited about the dried cherries, which were a huge hit due to their tart kick.
This hands-on activity helped them develop a positive relationship with healthy eating and cooking! - Thulasi , Nutrition Program

🌟 National Mentoring Summit Recap! 🌟 Our very own Family Engagement Specialist, Marcela Garcia, was selected as a 2025 Karina Nova National Mentoring Summit Scholar! 🎉

As part of this experience, Marcela had the opportunity to participate in MENTOR’s Capitol Hill Day, where she lobbied with Congress to advocate for mentoring programs. She met with staff from the offices of NY Senators Chuck Schumer & Kirsten Gillibrand, along with House Representative Nydia Velasquez—fighting for the future of mentorship!

Marcela also took part in an “Impact Hive” led by Ernst & Young, where she proposed a challenge statement and collaborated with professionals across various organizations to tackle the challenge and brainstorm innovative solutions💡

Throughout the summit, Marcela connected with other exceptional scholars and professionals, attending workshops on the latest research and best practices in mentoring. It was an inspiring experience that allowed her to learn, network, and bring back fresh strategies to improve our own programs at REACH. 🚀

Here’s some words from Marcela:
“The 2025 National Mentoring Summit experience was phenomenal. It was an inspiring space where I not only connected with fellow scholars but also had the incredible opportunity to learn how other organizations and programs are making a real impact on youth through mentoring. The highlight of the conference for me was the Impact Hive, where I worked directly with accomplished professionals from across the country to unpack a challenge statement and collaborate on solutions to improve the mentoring program at REACH. The Impact Hive gave me the chance to network with industry leaders, leverage their expertise, and learn an effective framework for group problem-solving. I left with a wealth of ideas on how to expand and enhance the Success Mentoring Program at REACH.”

In collaboration with our partner school P.S. 36 Margaret Douglas, the Student Support Team, teachers, and Harlem Dowling’s decoration assistance we hosted our first Fall Family Feast.

Families were able to enjoy dinner, a healthy dessert demonstration, fall bingo, and different art activities. The families were also able to get a glimpse of student work in Green Beets, yoga, dance, literacy magazine, and gardening club hosted by REACH fellows.

Thanks to donations from our neighborhood grocery stores the school was also able to provide 7 families with free turkeys for this holiday season. Thank you to all the families who joined us and participated in this beautiful festive night, and to all the P.S. 36 staff that made the event possible🤍
