Today's 20th Independent Battery is comprised of Officers and Cadets of the State University of New York Maritime College at Fort Schuyler. We are currently the only Regiment of actual New York State Volunteers. The two bronze Dahlgren 12-pdr Boat Howitzers we use and maintain are originals. They are in service by lease from their owner, the Maritime Industry Museum at Fort Schuyler. Although desi

gned for use on naval ships, Dahlgrens were used by various NY regiments during the war, most notably at the First Battle of Bull Run. And of course, we are the only Civil War reenactment unit which lives at the post garrisoned by the original unit. Our Fort is sacred to us: our home, our school and our history all in one.
