Compassion doesn't always look the same—and that's a beautiful reminder that each child has been uniquely created with gifts that can be used to love and serve others.

There are no "better" compassion types.

Only different ways of reflecting the same heart.

Because raising compassionate learners isn't about helping children become someone else.

It's about helping them discover who they were created to be—and using those gifts to serve the world with wisdom, courage, and love.

At School in a Backpack, we believe education is about forming the whole child.

This week, invite your learner on a journey of self-discovery.

✨ Take the Compassion Personality Test through the link in our bio, then use the results as a starting point for reflection rather than a label. And tell us: What did your family discover about one another?

What is School in a Backpack?

More than a curriculum.
More than a collection of activities.
More than learning on the go.

School in a Backpack is a way of seeing the world.

Experiences stay with us because they engage more than our minds.

They involve our senses, our emotions, our relationships, and our stories.

When children experience learning instead of simply receiving information, they build understanding that lasts far beyond a test.

Knowledge becomes connected to memory.

And memory becomes wisdom.

That's why we don't just teach children about the world.

We invite them to experience it.

What childhood experience still teaches you something today?

Learning isn't something we have to schedule into every hour.

Sometimes, it simply asks us to slow down enough to notice.

This week, instead of rushing through your grocery list, invite your child into the experience.

Ask questions.

Let them choose.

Give them responsibility.

You'll leave with more than food.

You'll leave with stories they'll remember long after dinner is over.

Save this as inspiration for your next grocery adventure.

Experiential learning isn't about abandoning academics. Research consistently shows that children build deeper understanding when they can connect ideas to real experiences. Knowledge becomes meaningful because it has a place, a story, and a memory attached to it.

At School in a Backpack, we believe education isn't confined to a building. It lives wherever curiosity meets the world.

In a traditional classroom, their constant movement is labeled as a distraction. The shifting in the chair, the tapping feet, the restless energy that looks like a refusal to focus.

But watch what happens when you hand them a shovel 🪏

The moment their boots hit the dirt, that "restless energy" transforms entirely. It becomes heavy work. It becomes purpose.

Watch them dig.

Some brains aren't built to process the world through a desk and a pencil. They process it through weight, resistance, and raw, tactile problem-solving.

Before we try to fix a child's inability to sit still, we need to look at what happens when we give them the space to move. Play isn't a break from learning—for some children, it’s the only place real learning begins.

You don't need to know everything before your child begins learning.

You don't need a teaching degree, a perfectly planned curriculum, or a home that looks like a classroom.

Because children aren't waiting for perfect lessons.

They're waiting for someone who will notice the world with them.

Research in child development continues to affirm what many parents instinctively know: children learn best through warm relationships, meaningful experiences, and opportunities to explore with trusted adults.

The greatest gift we can offer isn't having all the answers.

It's having the courage to say, "Let's find out together."

At School in a Backpack, we believe every child is born curious. Our role isn't to fill empty minds, but to protect that curiosity long enough for it to become confidence, compassion, and purpose.

The world has always been teaching.

Sometimes, all it needs is a grown-up willing to slow down, ask questions, and walk beside a child.

Swipe through to discover five qualities that matter far more than perfection—and why you're more ready for this journey than you may think.

Kids don’t learn when they’re seated and quiet. They learn when they’re touching, tasting, negotiating, and figuring things out in real time.

That’s experience-based learning, and it’s the whole reason School in a Backpack exists.

Swipe to see what it actually looks like (it’s a whole lot messier and louder than a worksheet, and THAT’s the point)!

We keep asking why kids can’t focus.
Maybe we forgot to give them something worth focusing on.
