Wonderful news about Anastasia in Ukraine — her surgery was successful!

Thanks to your generosity and support, 6-year-old Anastasia was able to undergo the complex and important hip surgery she needed. Her mom asked us to share her heartfelt thanks with everyone who helped.

“I want to sincerely thank the foundation for helping with my daughter Anastasia’s surgery. It was a complex, costly, and very important operation. Everything went successfully! For those of you who know me well, you know this is the busiest time of year for me.

Our Maya’s Hope Lotus Ball is November 18th, which means that until November 18th, I work like a crazy woman.

Every. Single. Year. 😂

My team is international, from South America to Europe to the Philippines, so most days, it’s just me in our NYC office.

But I’m not really alone.

I have these beautiful humans who show up and volunteer their time to help me.

Lori has been volunteering with Maya’s Hope for 10 years. TEN YEARS.

She was by my side before I got married. She was there when I became a mom. During my daughter's first year, when I would bring my baby to the office with me, Lori would play with her while I worked.

She has been there through so many chapters of my life and Maya’s Hope.

And even with her crazy international travel schedule, she still comes in whenever she can to help. ❤️

And then there’s Celeste, who has been with me for two years.

If you’ve donated to Maya’s Hope and received a handwritten thank-you note signed by Celeste—that’s her.

She is also my bodyguard. 😂

Celeste can give a look that could stare ANYONE down. But underneath that look is one of the biggest hearts.

Maria comes in to help. Lilly was here last week. People sit with me stuffing envelopes, preparing mailings, writing addresses and handwriting thank-you notes.

It may not be the glamorous side of running a nonprofit, but it is such an important part of what keeps Maya’s Hope going.

And honestly, they make me laugh. They give the best hugs. And during these crazy weeks, sometimes that is exactly what I need.

I’ve always known that I can't do Maya’s Hope alone.

Maya’s Hope has always been a global effort.

There are people working across countries and time zones for our kids—and then there are these wonderful humans who walk into our little NYC office, sit down beside me and say, essentially, “Okay, what needs to get done?”

I am so blessed to have them.

These are just a few of the people behind Maya’s Hope.

And I love them. ❤️

Imagine holding your two-month-old baby, watching him sleep, and knowing every tick of the clock is a risk.

When Jeremiah was born, his parents were ready for sleepless nights and quiet baby smiles. Instead, they were thrust into a medical crisis.

Jeremiah was born with two serious brain conditions: encephalocele and hydrocephalus. Liquid is rapidly building pressure inside his skull—stretching his head circumference to 42 cm—while a defect at the back of his head exposes vulnerable tissue.

His doctors have a clear plan: a combined neurosurgery to drain the fluid and repair the defect. But public waiting lists take months, and his developing brain doesn't have months to wait.

His parents found a clinic ready to help him now, but they cannot afford the cost alone.

We refuse to let money stand between a baby and his chance to grow up healthy.

to the moment a four-year-old boy finally got to just be a kid.

Back in 2020, little Yuhan spent his days watching other children run and play in the Philippines. Born with an imperforate a**s, he relied on a colostomy bag from infancy. But like any energetic four-year-old, Yuhan wanted to move, play, and explore—except every time he tried, his colostomy bag would leak and come loose, turning simple childhood joy into pain and discomfort.

His mother was desperate to give him a normal life, but the complex reconstructive surgeries he needed were far beyond what her family could ever afford.

That’s when this community stepped in.

Thanks to your support, Yuhan received the life-changing surgeries to form a new a**l opening and safely reverse his colostomy. His mother’s relief was overwhelming when she sent us this message after his recovery:

“Yuhan’s wound has healed already. Thank you Lord for a normal life for Yuhan. Thank you so much for all the help for my son.”
Six years later, Yuhan is still living that healthy, active, normal life you helped make possible. When you give to Maya’s Hope, you don’t just pay for medical procedures—you write happy endings that last a lifetime.

Last Wednesday, Maya's Hope won the 2026 SAX Nonprofit Founders’ Award.

And I don’t think I’ve really let that sink in yet.

The past week has been such a whirlwind that I went almost immediately from that incredible night back into the everyday work of Maya’s Hope. Children who need help. Calls. Emails. Our upcoming gala. There hasn’t really been a moment to stop and process what happened.

Today, I finally rewatched this video that our Board Member Michael Meltzer took as I went up to accept the award.

It still feels so surreal.

You can literally see the shock on my face. When they started reading our mission statement, I remember realizing what was happening and blurting out, “Oh my God… that’s us!”

And suddenly, I was walking up to accept the SAX Nonprofit Founders’ Award and a $20,000 award for Maya’s Hope.

What makes this recognition even more meaningful is knowing that we were surrounded by approximately 75 incredible nonprofit organizations, each doing important work and making a difference in their communities.

I also want to congratulate Christie Arlotta, P.E. and Karma Cat Rescue Society, who received second place, and Joseph Ader and Family Promise of Spokane, who received third place. It was an honor to share this experience with leaders who have dedicated so much of themselves to helping others.

There were so many extraordinary organizations in that room.

To be among them was an honor in itself. I am truly grateful that Maya’s Hope was selected for this award.

Nearly 16 years ago, Maya’s Hope began with a simple belief that we could change the life of one child at a time.

There was no roadmap. I certainly never imagined where it would lead.

Nearly 16 years later, I’m still learning. Still growing. Still figuring things out. And still amazed by how far this little organization has come.

Watching this video brought me right back to that moment.

Still shocked.

Still incredibly grateful.

And maybe now, finally, letting it sink in a little. ❤️

Thank you to SAX for this extraordinary recognition and for celebrating the work of nonprofits.

And thank you to every donor, volunteer, Board Member, team member, partner, friend, and supporter who has been part of Maya’s Hope over the years.

This award belongs to all of us.

💙 HELP KIRA KEEP MOVING 🇺🇦

Kira is 10 years old and lives in Ukraine. She has cerebral palsy and epilepsy.

For Kira, every movement takes work.

Behind every bit of progress are countless hours of physical therapy, exercises, determination, and courage.

And then came the war.

The stress of the war caused Kira’s epileptic seizures to return. She now attends school virtually, and regularly traveling to rehabilitation centers has become much more difficult.

Even something as simple as going outside to walk and exercise can be interrupted by an air-raid siren.

But Kira can’t put physical therapy on hold.

Her body needs movement every day to help maintain her mobility, flexibility, muscle function, and circulation.

So we want to bring therapy HOME to Kira. ❤️

We are raising funds for a motorized rehabilitation bike for her arms and legs. The bike can gently move her limbs even when she cannot complete the movements independently, allowing her to continue exercising safely at home.

For most people, it might look like an exercise bike.

For Kira, it is so much more.

It is physical therapy.
It is movement.
It is a chance to protect the progress she has fought so hard to make.
And it is another step toward greater independence.

Olia lives in a remote village in Ukraine, far from specialized medical care and the support her family desperately needs. 🇺🇦💙

Her life changed from the very beginning. After suffering oxygen deprivation during birth, Olia was left with severe and irreversible brain damage.

Today, she requires constant care.

She cannot communicate like other children. She has significant developmental and intellectual disabilities, vision problems, and complex medical needs. She has already undergone surgery on her left eye after developing a cataract.

But behind every diagnosis is a little girl who deserves to be comfortable, cared for, and surrounded by love.

Olia’s father is disabled, and her mother carries the enormous responsibility of caring for their family every single day.

Right now, they need help with something very simple:

❤️ Everyday care essentials
These aren't extraordinary things.

They are the things Olia needs every single day to stay clean, comfortable, and cared for.
