Carnegie Hill CSA Upper East Side organic farm share partnering with Stoneledge Farm to bring fresh local produce to the UES from the Hudson Valley. Signups close May 28!

Pickup on Tuesdays on E 90th & Fifth from June through October, when the vegetables are at their peak. Upper East Side community supported agriculture (CSA) group providing organic, local produce weekly from June through October. Carnegie Hill CSA is a partnership between the Kavakos family of Stoneledge Farm in South Cairo, NY, who sell shares in their harvest, and residents of the Upper East Side who purchase a share of the growing season before the harvest begins. Buying the shares early enables the farm to cover yearly costs, almost all of which are incurred before crops are ready for harvest. Our members get a share of the harvest throughout the season, grown and delivered by a farmer they know and trust. In addition to full vegetable shares, we offer small shares, summer shares, and fall shares. Members can add optional fruit, mushroom, coffee, bread, or bean shares. CSA members also have access to the farm store, which offers honey, maple syrup, mushrooms, jams, flour, pasta, sauces, pickles, veggies & fruit in bulk, and more local foods from neighboring farms. Carnegie Hill CSA has been serving our neighborhood for 30 years. Visit our website to learn more about becoming a member.

We’ll let Ann Levin take this one:

This week, Stan Honda focused on the round, the long, and the weird: specifically, a seemingly perfect onion, a bunch of wild and messy celery, and what he described as an alien carrot. FWIW, he has and always will be a Trekkie!

Round-ish was the theme this week.

Pie pumpkin, bell eggplant, a funky beet, and more — some more committed to the assignment than others.

Onion harvest at Stoneledge Farm – just look at all those beautiful onions curing in the greenhouse! Here's an update from farmer Candice:

"One big thing we just wrapped up is harvesting all our beautiful onions. With all the rain we had in July, the onions really soaked it up — they're big and beautiful. These were the first crop planted back in March in the greenhouse, then transplanted one by one out into the fields. A lot of work goes into growing onions, so harvesting such a great crop is incredibly rewarding.

"Over the past few weeks, you've been enjoying the bounty of freshly harvested onions (my favorite!) - harvested right from the field, washed, packed, and sent straight to your boxes. They're sweet and fresh. The rest of the onions are now laid out in the greenhouse to dry and cure, letting the outer layers develop that papery skin. Curing gives them a stronger flavor and lets them last much longer as storage onions. You'll see them return to your boxes again shortly!"
