⭐️ Segundo Hogar is a program designed to bridge the gap in support for K-8 Spanish-speaking migrant children in San Diego. These children face challenges processing trauma and adapting to a new country, with current afterschool programs often relying on underqualified staff. Segundo Hogar connects these children with bilingual graduate students from psychology, art therapy, and social work programs, who provide free trauma-informed support while fulfilling their fieldwork requirements.
⭐️The Ember Co-op is a cooperatively owned nonprofit focused on wildfire mitigation in wildfire-prone communities in Canada. It addresses the lack of resources and circular economy practices needed for large-scale fuel management. The pilot initiative will launch in Salmon Arm, British Columbia, a community facing significant wildfire risks. The Ember Co-op mobilizes local volunteers to manage fuel in larger areas, reducing the vulnerability of homes and towns to wildfires.
⭐️The Aunty Project (TAP) seeks to bridge the gap between survivors of intimate partner violence (IPV) in Bihar, India, and available crisis resources by leveraging the trusted “aunty” network—women over the age of 50—to connect survivors with NGO partners for legal, medical, and psychological assistance. TAP aims to address the low literacy and awareness challenges by empowering aunties with specialized training and utilizing accessible communication platforms like WhatsApp and Facebook.
