The National Weather Service (NWS) forecasted extreme heat conditions expected to impact portions of the tri-state region beginning Wednesday afternoon and continuing through the end of the week across the five New York City boroughs, Long Island, portions of Northeast New Jersey, the Lower Hudson Valley, Putnam and Dutchess Counties, and Southern Connecticut.
The most significant impacts are expected to be concentrated across New York City, portions of Southeast New York, Northeast New Jersey, and Southern Connecticut, where the National Weather Service has issued an Extreme Heat Watch. No significant heat-related advisories have been issued at this time for Long Island, Dutchess County, or other Northwell service areas.
The NWS has issued the following weather advisories:
Extreme Heat Watch from Wednesday afternoon through Friday evening for New York City, portions of Southeast New York (including Rockland, Westchester, and Putnam Counties), portions of Northeast New Jersey, and Southern Connecticut. Heat index values between 105°F and 110°F are possible, with forecast high temperatures reaching 95°F Wednesday, 99°F Thursday, and 101°F Friday. The extreme heat and humidity will significantly increase the potential for heat-related illnesses, especially for those working or participating in outdoor activities.
