Quilted is a free-form, rhythm-forward trio featuring tabla player Krissy Bergmark, tap dancer/percussionist Melissa Almaguer, and flutist Samantha Kochis.
verolís is led by bassist and composer Kenneth Jiménez, and features Ingrid Laubrock on tenor saxophone and Christopher Hoffman on cello. The band takes its name after the flower of the sugar cane plant that blooms during harvesting season. Jiménez draws inspiration from these images that inhabit his earliest memories to put together this band and create this music. The trio moves between written music and improvisation, graphic scores and regular notation, exploring a wide range of textures and sounds to create shape and form throughout their set.
Lesley Mok’s solo set combines drums and electronics to paint a landscape that explores the sculptural qualities of beat-making, ambience, and movement. Inspired by free jazz, noise, sounds from the natural environment, and artists like Robert Hood, Ryuichi Sakamoto, and Arthur Russell, the music traverses a soundscape that goes from kinetic maximalism to delicate stillness, creating a listening experience that bends and warps time.
They will all be performing as part of our last Fire Over Heaven show May 21st!
