Watchlist on Children and Armed Conflict

Watchlist on Children and Armed Conflict Working together to protect the security and rights of children

As a network of international non-governmental organizations, the Watchlist on Children and Armed Conflict strives to protect children in war zones. Together with our local and international partners, we strategically collect and disseminate information on violations against children throughout the world and use this information to advocate for change. Watchlist provides its partners with technica

l support and advice to strengthen their ability to monitor abuses, to advocate on behalf of children in their communities and to respond to the immediate needs of victims. Watchlist then takes the information directly to key decision-makers at the UN Security Council where we recommend policy changes and advocate for the adoption and implementation of global child protection policies.

On February 12, 2002, an international treaty banning the use of children under 18 in hostilities came into force. Since then, the global community marks February 12 as the International Day against the Use of Child Soldiers, or Red Hand Day, to raise awareness about the recruitment & use of children in armed conflict.
