The First Step Toward Healing, Recovery, and Belonging
There is a moment many families know all too well.

A parent senses something is wrong but avoids saying it aloud.
A sibling becomes angry and withdrawn.
A friend notices dangerous behavior but fears losing the relationship if they speak honestly.
A teacher suspects emotional pain beneath slipping grades.
A coach sees isolation replacing enthusiasm.
A pastor, rabbi, imam, or spiritual leader recognizes suffering hidden behind a smile.

Everyone sees fragments of the truth. Yet too often, no one begins the conversation.

At Gregg’s Gift, we have learned: IT’S HERE TO HELP YOUR FAMILY: https://greggsgift.org/honest-conversations/

Resentment is reduced
Emotional balance is restored

The recovering individual returns to a healthier environment

Research and shared experiences tell us that siblings of individuals with substance use disorders are at increased risk for:

- Mental health challenges, including anxiety and depression
- Difficulty trusting others
- Struggles with boundaries
- Increased likelihood of substance use themselves

These awful outcomes don’t occur because siblings are “destined” for them; they happen because LEARN WHY HERE: https://tinyurl.com/5t35fbtk

When a young person is battling substance use, the focus—understandably—turns toward crisis recognition, its management, treatment, and family survival. Parents are consumed with fear, logistics, and heartbreak. Resources are mobilized. Time, energy, and finances are redirected toward the child in need.

And then there are the siblings.

Often overlooked, frequently misunderstood, and quietly carrying a burden they don’t want or understand, siblings of addicted youth live in the shadow of a crisis that PLEASE READ THIS: https://tinyurl.com/5t35fbtk

The Parent’s Experience: Reconnection and Rebuilding Trust
For parents, their journey from isolation to integration is deeply emotional. You may feel grief, anger, confusion, and even guilt. You may question your decisions, your awareness, your role.

Please hear this: you are not alone, and you are not to blame.

Social recovery includes families as well as the recovering young adult. In fact, it depends on them. They are also rebuilding trust and this takes time. It requires patience, consistency, and often guidance from professionals or support networks. But it is possible.
