Aristides de Sousa Mendes was his name. We should remember his courage.

The U.S. would be wise to follow suit with wolves, wild horses, bison, and the American eagle for start - all in danger of extinction under our eye due to lack of ample protection policies.

Many saw the images of presidents on their currency as an attempt to glorify them.

Tragic. Nearly 90 elephants - 90! - were recently killed for their tusks near a famous wildlife sanctuary in Botswana. Elephants Without Borders says it is the largest scale of poaching it has seen in Africa.

Up till now, Botswana has been a shining example of elephant conservation during the elephant poaching crisis in the last 10 years with few poaching incidents, a government focused on anti poaching and conservation. It is home to the largest population of Africa’s elephants.

What happened? Botswana’s new president Masisi was sworn into office in April and disarmed its anti-poaching units in May. No coincidence here.

Conservationists found 87 elephant carcasses while conducting a wildlife survey in the country.

Lack of sea ice is making it more difficult for polar bears to find food.

Today is Giving Tuesday. There is no better day to show your support for a charity you care about than today - many charities have matching pledges to double your donation on this day, many platforms are waiving fees and... well it's the holidays!

Please consider giving to one of the projects we currently support: Sousa Mendes Foundation Return To Freedom, Wild Horse Conservation ΜΕΤΑδραση - METAdrasi Project Soar Morocco SanWild Wildlife Sanctuary (Please donate directly through their websites as they may have their own matching pledges) or any of our SAFE projects you can find on saveafricaselephants.org (again please donate directly to the individual project websites).

A wonderful organization focused on empowering girls in rural Morocco so they can have brighter futures. Project Soar Morocco.

Last week, this group of Peace Corps Volunteers and Moroccan counterparts completed a 5 day, action packed and inspiring training at our Project Soar HQ! We sent them on their way with curriculum, supplies and the support it will take to bring Project Soar in a Box to girls in their communities. We cannot wait to follow their journeys and hear about the empowerment programming that 350+ new girls will be involved in!

A lot of turning points this week after the administration's announcement of the planned lifting of the U.S. ban on importing elephant trophies in Zambia and Zimbabwe. The public outrage was felt far and wide in response to this as this would be a huge setback to so much work and progress that has been made over the last years to protect these magnificent, intelligent and social animals and would open the gates to more wildlife trafficking and killing.

Trump's reversal to postpone the decision came as a surprise to many, including the USF&W. Stay tuned ... it's not over until a final decision made. We must be vigilant to protect all wildlife and be the voices to those who cannot speak.

President Donald Trump's move late Friday night to postpone a decision to allow the import of elephant hunting trophies from two African countries came as a surprise not only to interest groups, but also the US Fish and Wildlife Service employees who oversaw the proposed change in policy, a source w...

What Trump's proposed 2018 budget means for wildlife - and its not good:

- A 32 percent across-the-board cut in U.S. foreign assistance, affecting hundreds of sustainability, health and environmental programs
- Major cuts would come to the Department of State, USAID, and U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service programs. More than 1/2 of the budget dedicated to wildlife trafficking would be cut.
- USFWS’s International Species program — focusing on African and Asian elephants, great apes, migratory birds, tigers, rhinos and sea turtles —would go from a 2017 budget of $9.15 million to being completely zeroed out.
- Funding to protect new species under the Endangered Species Act would be cut by nearly 17 percent.

The list goes on and on and if approved by Congress in December would be disastrous for wildlife everywhere. Make your voice heard that protecting our planet's ecosystems, environment and wildlife is a PRIORITY.

Congress is locked in a heated debate over the 2018 budget, but if the GOP follows Trump’s lead, they could do extensive harm to the world’s wildlife and to developing nations.

One of the projects The Bodhi Tree Foundation supports is Return to Freedom, a wonderful non profit dedicated to protecting the freedom, diversity and habitat of America’s wild horses through sanctuary, conservation, education and advocacy

The BLM's purpose is to manage the U.S. lands and the wildlife that lives on it - its values to 'serve with honesty, integrity, accountability, respect, courage, and commitment to make a difference'.

Rather than look at effective, non-invasive and humane solutions, the BLM chooses to round-up wild horse herds in tightly bonded bands through helicopters and other dangerous methods – and holding them up in government pens. More than 44,000 wild horses are now in long term holding facilities under harsh and stressful conditions. These roundups cost millions of tax dollar funds.

We can not accept BLM to allow any horses to be sent to slaughter and need to urge them to stop the round ups, set these horses free and look at alternative solutions that have been tried and tested and presented to them. They have a right to live on our nation's lands as they have since the 1500s.

Your voice helps have a say on their future. To watch advisory meeting Friday live from 8 am to 5 pm visit

About 45 wild horses were captured on the day. As of this writing, the Bureau of Land Management has not yet posted its gather re...
