New York, NY 10011 In pursuit of this goal—and according to St.

Organized by members of the Catholic movement Communion and Liberation, the NYE strives to witness to the new life and knowledge generated by the faith, following Pope Benedict's claim that "the intelligence of faith has to become the intelligence of reality." Paul’s suggestion to "test everything and retain what is good"—NYE aims to discover, affirm, and offer to everyone truly human expressions

of desire for truth, beauty, and justice. NYE, thus, becomes a meeting point for people of different beliefs, traditions, and cultures striving for reciprocal understanding, mutual building, and true friendship. Through a vast array of conferences, artistic performances, and exhibits, NYE is both a dwelling place and a point of departure for men and women wishing to live fully and promote a society of truth and love.

We were told progress, reason, and technology would give life meaning. It didn’t.

Instead, there’s restlessness. Anxiety. A sense that nothing fully satisfies.

So young people are seeking faith and returning to what once seemed unnecessary. Not out of nostalgia, but because everything else has been tried.

Why young people seek faith is at the heart of this conversation.

Featuring Justin Brierley, writer; Lauren Jackson, journalist at The New York Times; and Chip Rotolo, research associate at the Pew Research Center. Moderated by Brandon Vaidyanathan, professor of sociology at The Catholic University of America.

In 2025, we had the privilege of welcoming Archbishop Gabriele Caccia, who moderated the conversation “In the Midst of Hell, Not Hell” at The Encounter, a conversation with voices from the Holy Land about suffering, hope, and the persistence of life.

As he now begins his mission as the Apostolic Nuncio to the United States, we are grateful for his presence at The New York Encounter and the witness shared that day.

You can watch the full discussion on our YouTube channel.

Today, February 22nd, we celebrate the life of Luigi Giussani, a man who continues to remind us that faith is not an abstract idea, but an encounter that changes everything.

Founder of Comunione e Liberazione, Fr. Giussani dedicated his life to awakening in young people the desire for truth, beauty, and meaning. He teaches us still that Christianity is not a moral code or a set of rules, but the living presence of Christ in history.

“Christianity is not a doctrine, not a moral system, not a tradition. Christianity is an event — an encounter.”

In New York and around the world, his charism continues to shape friendships, culture, and a way of living reality with openness and hope.

Grateful for his yes.

On Sunday, February 15, at the New York Encounter, Cardinal Dolan reflected on God’s gift of freedom: He proposes, He invites, He never forces.

His Eminence shares a story about how a man met the grace of Christ even behind prison walls.

True freedom lies not in where you live or what you have, but in who you are—specifically, being a child of God, ransomed by Jesus, and choosing to accept His invitation. It’s the freedom that comes from responding to God’s grace, repentance, and living faithfully, even in the hardest circumstances. Christ’s love is an invitation for encounter.

This Ash Wednesday, we wish you a good and holy Lenten season.
