Spot any familiar faces?

Before a decade of performances, programs, and partnerships, there was this.

One of the first-ever photos of Broadway Advocacy Coalition, taken in 2016 💜

A group of artists, advocates, and organizers coming together around a shared belief: that art could be a powerful catalyst for justice. Some of the people pictured here are still core members of BAC today, continuing to shape our work 10 years later.

As we celebrate BAC’s 10th anniversary, we’re going back to the beginning and looking ahead to what we can build together.

BAC is 10 and over the coming weeks, we’ll be sharing stories, people, and moments from across BAC’s first decade.

We’re grateful to BAC donor Glenn E. Martin and actor Gbenga Akinnagbe for bringing together friends and colleagues for an intimate gathering in support of our work.

Guests heard from Executive Director Elz Cuya Jones and activist Yusuf Dahl about the power of art and storytelling to create meaningful change, with a special performance by artist Grace Galu Kalambay.

As BAC enters its next chapter, gatherings like these remind us that this work has always been powered by community, and that means you.

✨ BAC Is 10 ✨

Over the last decade, we’ve gathered artists, advocates, organizers, and directly impacted community leaders to reimagine how art can build movements rooted in justice, creativity, and collective action.

As we celebrate this milestone, we’re not just looking back. We’re building forward.

On October 5, we invite you to join us for BAC is 10, celebrating the Original Cast & Crew of BAC, including Britton Smith and Amber Iman , hosted by Kara Young , with special appearances by Lena Waithe and Zhailon Levingston , alongside special performances, inspiring stories, dancing, and moments to reflect on where we’ve been and imagine what’s possible in the decade ahead.

More than an anniversary party, it’s a celebration of a movement. A reunion of our community. And an investment in the next decade of using art as a catalyst for justice.

Whether you’ve been with us since the beginning or are just discovering BAC, we’d love for you to be in the room.

Mayor Mamdani permanently closed Rikers Island’s North Infirmary Command facility, marking the first land transfer to DCAS in five years.

The closure, which previously housed incarcerated individuals with acute medical needs, was made possible by the opening of a new 104-bed Outposted Therapeutic Housing Unit at NYC Health + Hospitals/Bellevue.

This milestone in the campaign to close Rikers and signals a significant step towards a reformed system centered around rehabilitation and accountability.

⚡️ But the wins of his administration have come from years, if not decades, of organizing by everyday people demanding to be heard. Let us be reminded that our votes matter, our demands matter, and we have the momentum now to build the world we want to live in.

Reminders for Artists Building Collective Power ✨

1. Nothing can interrupt a movement of people who are committed to solidarity.

2. Incremental change leads to big change.

3. Every audience is a community in the making.

4. Creative practice alone isn’t enough.

⚡️ ignites action through artivism. We bring together artists, directly impacted leaders, and advocacy organizations to create performances that drive change.
