At Democracy Prep, every scholar deserves to feel safe, supported, respected, and valued. We believe that building joyful, inclusive school communities starts with kindness, empathy, and standing up for one another.

This month and every month, we’re committed to fostering school environments where every scholar feels a sense of belonging and is empowered to be their authentic self. Together, we can create a culture where kindness leads and bullying has no place. 💙

Indigenous Peoples Day is a time to honor Indigenous peoples, communities, cultures, histories, and continued presence.

It is also a reminder that learning requires honesty.

At Democracy Prep, we believe schools have a responsibility to help scholars understand history with care, respect, and complexity. That means recognizing Indigenous communities not only as part of the past, but as present, active, and ongoing.

Today, we honor Indigenous peoples and reflect on the importance of truth, respect, and continued learning.

What a weekend in Vegas! 🎉

This weekend, Democracy Prep joined thousands of educators, leaders, alumni, and partners from across the country for Teach For America 35th Anniversary Summit.

It was an incredible opportunity to reconnect, celebrate the impact educators and leaders have made over the last 35 years, and spend time thinking together about what comes next for our scholars, schools, and communities.

We were proud to share more about Democracy Prep, connect with so many people committed to expanding opportunity for young people, and leave Vegas even more energized for the work ahead.

Thank you, Teach For America, for bringing this community together. Here’s to what we continue building together! ❤️

At Democracy Prep, we believe every scholar deserves a safe, joyful school where they are known, supported, challenged, and surrounded by educators who believe deeply in what they can become.

We are excited to welcome families who are considering Democracy Prep for next year and invite you to take the next step by submitting an application.

Allow us to reintroduce Orin Davis💙

In 2019 Orin joined Democracy Prep Pathways as a paraprofessional, his first role in education, stepping in from a completely different career.

He grew. He built relationships with scholars, families, and colleagues that endured long after he transitioned away. And then he came back. Not because he had to. Because Democracy Prep felt like family and some communities are worth choosing twice.

As we celebrate 20 years this is a reminder that Democracy Prep’s legacy lives not only in our schools, but in the people who keep choosing this mission. 🙏

📈💙 Math is moving up at Democracy Prep.

Across our middle schools, scholars made incredible gains in math, including 34% growth at Democracy Prep Harlem Middle, 19% at Bronx Prep Middle School, and 13% at Democracy Prep Charter Middle. ✏️✨ And at Bronx Prep Middle, sixth grade math proficiency reached 75%, with 31% growth and performance 22% above the New York State proficiency average.

Those numbers reflect so much more than a test. They reflect great teaching, scholars who kept pushing, and educators who believe deeply in what every child can achieve. 💛

This is what happens when great teaching meets belief in all scholars.

Today was Dad’s Take Your Child to School Day at Democracy Prep and the energy in the building was something special. Nothing hits like seeing a father walk through those doors with their scholar. 🙏✨
