Across borders, cultures, and languages, one prayer for peace

At a time when war, violence, and division continue to wound our world, we are reminded of our shared responsibility to pray and work for peace. Across countries, cultures, languages, and congregations, women religious are coming together, united by a common hope for reconciliation and healing.

In response to Pope Leo XIV’s invitation to pray for an end to war, the International Union of Superiors General (UISG) invites sisters and communities around the world to join in praying the Rosary for peace.

We may live in different parts of the world and experience its suffering in different ways, but prayer connects us across every border. Together, we will hold in our hearts those living amid conflict, families who have lost their homes and loved ones, and all who long for a future free from violence.

Pope Leo XIV reminds us that we cannot allow war to become a normal part of our lives. May this shared prayer strengthen our commitment to listen, reconcile, and become peacemakers wherever we are.
We encourage you to share this invitation with all the sisters in your congregations, especially our senior sisters, whose lives of faithful prayer continue to be a gift to the Church and our world. Please help those who may need assistance accessing the livestream so they, too, can join their prayers with sisters across the continents.

Wherever we are, whether gathered in community or praying from our rooms, let us pause together and entrust our wounded world to Mary, asking for the courage to become instruments of peace.

Yesterday, the U.S. Department of War announced that the firing squad ex*****on of Nidal Hasan, the man convicted of killing 13 people and injuring 32 at Fort Hood, Texas in 2009, would be publicly livestreamed. Archbishop Paul S. Coakley, president of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops issued the following statement sharply condemning the decision of the U.S. government:

“It is with shock and great sorrow that I have learned of the Department of War’s decision to publicly livestream the ex*****on of Nidal Hasan. Our God is the God of life. In no way can Hassan’s actions be condoned but this decision is a barbaric promotion of a culture of death and must be reconsidered. The word of God exhorts us: ‘do not repay anyone evil for evil' (Romans 12:17). The public ex*****on even of one who has done grave harm will only further undermine the moral fabric of our nation and be a blight on the conscience of its people.

“I pray for the intercession of Our Lady of Good Counsel that we as a nation may always choose life even in the most trying times and circumstances.”

Before Our Lady of Fatima appeared in 1917, an angel came to prepare the hearts of the three shepherd children. 🙏

In 1916, the Angel of Peace, also known as the Angel of Portugal, appeared three times to Lúcia dos Santos and her cousins, Francisco and Jacinta Marto.

During these apparitions, he taught them two prayers that would become an important part of the spirituality of Fatima. Both call us to adore God, make reparation for sin, and pray for those who have turned away from Him.

🙏 1. The Prayer of Faith, Adoration, Hope, and Love

The angel taught the children to pray this while kneeling with their foreheads touching the ground:

“My God, I believe, I adore, I hope and I love You! I ask pardon of You for those who do not believe, do not adore, do not hope and do not love You!”

🙏 2. The Prayer to the Most Holy Trinity

During another apparition, the angel showed the children a Host and a chalice suspended in the air. He invited them to adore the Most Holy Trinity and gave them Holy Communion. He then taught them this prayer:

“Most Holy Trinity, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, I adore You profoundly, and I offer You the most precious Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity of Jesus Christ, present in all the tabernacles of the world, in reparation for the outrages, sacrileges and indifference with which He Himself is offended. And, through the infinite merits of His most Sacred Heart and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, I beg of You the conversion of poor sinners.”

These prayers are recorded in Sister Lúcia’s memoirs of the Fatima events.

The angel’s message reminds us that prayer is more than asking God for blessings. It is also about adoring Him, expressing our love, making reparation for sin, and praying for the conversion of the world.

Let us learn to pray with greater faith, adore Jesus in the Most Holy Eucharist, and never forget to pray for those who do not yet know His love.

As we celebrate the feast of St. Francis of Assisi during this special Jubilee Year, let us follow his example of humility, compassion and care for our common home. May we see Christ in all people and all creation.
