RARE APPEARANCE THIS FRIDAY IN BROOKLYN, NY! Join us Friday, Sept. 18 at 7:30 pm for the kick-off of the Folk Music Society of New York 2026/27 concert season with acclaimed folk/blues artists Andy Cohen, Eleanor Ellis, and William Lee Ellis!

These spectacular artists are coming together for the first time in decades, so make the most of this opportunity. Their reunion celebrates their new trio album for Riverlark: Whistlin’ Past the Graveyard, a collection of 21 traditional and original songs and instrumentals.

ANDY COHEN is a virtuoso finger-style guitarist described as “a walking, talking folk-blues-roots music encyclopedia.” ELEANOR ELLIS has been praised as “a celebrated master of the country and Piedmont blues, one of the most significant women in the acoustic genre” (Living Blues). WILLIAM LEE ELLIS is a roots music fingerpicking guitarist and songwriter who has been hailed a “wizard on steel strings” (Blues Revue) and “one of our finest contemporary songwriters” (Living Blues).

TOMORROW! Join us Sunday, AUG. from 2-4 pm for the Staten Island Chantey Sing Session. We support the Chantey Sing on the 3rd Sunday of the month. The William Main Doerflinger Memorial Sea Shanty Sessions at the Noble Maritime Collection (to give the official title) are at Bldg D, Snug Harbor Cultural Center, 1000 Richmond Terrace, Staten Island. The sessions are dedicated to the memory of William Main Doerflinger (1909-2000), the noted music scholar who lived near Sailors' Snug Harbor and visited often to collect shanties and traditional sailor’s songs from the residents. Join in on the catchy choruses or lead a chantey!

Enjoy six days (Sat. Aug. 29 – Fri. Sept. 4, 2026) of workshops, dances, concerts, jamming, one-shots, camper concerts, parties, boating, swimming in two lovely ponds, relaxing, learning, eating well, & having a truly magical experience with friends new and old!

Our staff are not only great performers; they are also consistently excellent teachers. This year’s staff includes: Scott Ainslie, Sarah Elizabeth Burkey, Howie Bursen, Amy Conley, Andy Davis, Craig Edwards, Gina Forsyth, Lisa Gutkin, Rev. Robert B.
