Annually, millions of people around the world become refugees and leave their homes in hope of finding freedom, peace and opportunities that are absent in their countries and an opportunity to bring normalcy and security to their fragmented lives. When refugees move to the new country, they not only have to adapt to a new culture far from their families and friends, but also often to a new languag

e. The existence of a language barrier for many refugees makes it more difficult for them to gain employment and access higher education. Some of the main barriers that refugees face are, lack of community-based language programs that fit their work schedule, a lack of job skills, transportation, lack of knowledge of tenancy laws, a fear of government institutions and a fear of losing their faith, culture and values. The purpose of this group is to share and exchange ideas and resources that are beneficial to refugee communities and raise public awareness on issues affecting refugees around world.
