Care for every stage of life.

On World Mental Health Day, the Emma L. Bowen Community Service Center reaffirms its commitment to compassionate, accessible care for Harlem and beyond.

From early childhood and school-based services to mental health care for adults and seniors, addiction treatment, recovery support, and care management, Bowen’s continuum of services connects individuals and families to the support they need. We believe in treating the whole person—addressing emotional well-being alongside the everyday needs that shape health and stability. Our food pantry extends that commitment, helping individuals and families meet essential needs because well-being reaches beyond the treatment room.

Wherever you are in life, you deserve to be heard, supported, and connected to care.

Emma Bowen’s legacy in action. 💚 FOX 5 NY visited the Bowen Center’s Food Pantry on September 30 as we came together with the Emma Bowen Foundation for a Day of Service honoring Mrs. Bowen’s 112th birthday.

Watch the two organizations that bear her name carry her commitment to community forward, helping neighbors put food on the table and offering care, dignity, and hope.

Today, on what would have been Emma L. Bowen’s 112th birthday, representatives of the Emma Bowen Foundation joined us in her beloved Harlem to help prepare and distribute food packages for neighbors facing food insecurity.

The Day of Service wrapped up the Foundation’s inaugural EBF Days of Service campaign and honored a woman who worked tirelessly to bring mental health care to her community and open doors for young people in media.

Our food pantry distributed more than 100,000 food packages in 2025 and is on pace to distribute approximately 125,000 in 2026. Thank you to the Foundation’s volunteers for sharing their time and helping us care for our neighbors.

Emma’s work lives on through both organizations. Today, we had the chance to carry it forward together.

Addiction can affect anyone…regardless of age, race, income, or background. Too often, individuals and families struggle long before others recognize the warning signs.

No one should be defined by a health condition or made to feel ashamed for seeking help. With compassion, support, and the right treatment, recovery is possible, and reaching out for help is an act of strength.

At the Emma L. Bowen Community Service Center, we provide confidential, compassionate treatment and support for individuals and families affected by substance use. We work alongside each participant to develop healthier coping strategies, recognize triggers and the underlying causes of relapse, reduce high-risk behaviors, build self-esteem, and strengthen family and personal relationships.

Our integrated approach also includes on-site psychiatric evaluations and medication management, allowing us to address each participant’s needs through a coordinated treatment plan.
You do not have to face this alone. To learn more or seek help, call 646.340.1400 or visit bowencsc.org.

Bowen Proud! Celebrating our Latino Trailblazer!

Leadership is measured not only by growth, but by the lives touched along the way, and Lilibeth Marchena’s leadership of the Emma L. Bowen Community Service Center’s Rainbow Clubhouse is a powerful example of both.

That leadership has earned well-deserved recognition once again. For the second consecutive year, Lilibeth has been named a City and State NY Latino Trailblazer, recognizing her commitment to strengthening our communities and making a meaningful difference in New Yorkers’ lives.

Under Lilibeth’s leadership, Rainbow Clubhouse continues to grow and expand, welcoming more New Yorkers living with serious mental illness into a community built on belonging, opportunity, and hope. She has also worked to make Rainbow even more inclusive and accessible, particularly for Spanish-speaking members, by establishing a virtual Clubhouse and developing new initiatives that create more opportunities for members to connect, participate, and be part of the Rainbow community.

Twenty-five years later, we remember the lives lost, honor the heroes who answered the call, and hold close the families and communities forever changed by September 11th.

We also pause to mourn those we have lost in the years since from 9/11-related illnesses and stand with those who continue to live with the physical and emotional effects of that tragic day.

As we remember, may we also recommit ourselves to the compassion, courage, and sense of community that brought us together in the days that followed.

We remember. We honor. We will never forget.
