Meet Ghost! This beautiful boy is one of the most kind-hearted souls you’ll ever meet. He loves every person and every dog and wants nothing more than to have a good cuddle on the couch.

At a year old, Ghost is still very much a puppy at heart, and he’s discovering so many everyday things for the very first time. Houses! TV! Leashes! Life with a family! There’s a whole big world out there, and Ghost is taking it all in with an open heart and a serious enthusiasm for learning.

In just a few short days, this smart boy has already made so much progress. He’s eager to learn, endlessly affectionate, and completely convinced that everyone he meets is a potential best friend. He’s even managed to win over his initially skeptical resident-dog sibling, and the two now spend their days wrestling, playing, and generally being ridiculous together.

Ghost does still have some puppy manners to work on — including leash skills and the occasional enthusiastic mouthing — but he’s already showing just how much he can learn with patience, consistency, and plenty of treats.

What Ghost needs now is a family willing to show him the ropes, give him time to figure out this whole “being a dog” thing.

Mist (aka Misty aka Misty Moo aka Moo Moo aka Miss Moo) is a spunky, spirited girl who is pure sunshine in dog form (not to mention, she has the most adorable bunny ears).

Originally from Queens and then , Mist has seamlessly settled into her foster home, acting like she's lived here forever and immediately making herself at home. She's convinced she’s a 20-pound lap dog and has never heard of personal space (seriously, there's no such thing as *too* close for this girl, she would crawl into your skin if she could). The fact that she is, in reality, a fully grown 60-pound house hippo is merely a technicality (don't be fooled by the number on the scale, she's a low rider). But once she looks at you with those sweet eyes and attempts to climb into your lap, you won't be able to say no.

Mist loves exploring new places (and following her foster around like a little shadow), taking long neighborhood walks with plenty of sniff breaks, and investigating everything the world has to offer. She’s also an excellent work-from-home coworker: happy to snooze beside you while you work (keep an ear out for her little snores!), provided you honor her policy of frequent play breaks.

Mist is potty trained, comfortable being on her own, knows “sit” and “paw,” loves other dogs (she became instant besties with her foster sister), and is nearly a perfect walker. She can be cautious when trying new things, but her adventurous spirit always wins out.

All she really needs is a cozy couch, some humans to adore, and a lap that she can insist is hers.

Surfer is one of the newest members of our pack, and if you haven't had a chance to meet him yet, then you are truly missing out! Originally from Queens , he was a standout volunteer fave at our most recent adoption event (and it's not hard to see why).

This boy is insanely cute, incredibly loving, and truly attached at the hip. He has an endless supply of love and kisses, and his beautiful brown eyes will get you every single time. Surfer wants to be wherever his person is. He’ll happily follow you from room to room and, the second you’re settled, he’ll take the opportunity to come over for pets and affection.

Food is absolutely the way to his heart. He has a massive appetite and is highly food-motivated (see the pup cup photos for proof), which makes training much easier. He loves a Kong filled with peanut butter or treats and is always excited for anything edible.

His past life hasn’t changed his love for or trust in people. More than anything, Surfer is a dog who wants to love and be loved. He would thrive with someone who wants a deeply affectionate companion, is willing to continue reinforcing his training, and doesn’t mind having a very devoted little shadow following them through life.

Surfer is approximately 7 years old (though you wouldn't believe it!) and 50 lbs. Allow us to reintroduce Jaro, who found his way to Muddy Paws from the ASPCA. He's the cutest boy with the biggest ears and the best full-body wiggles. Did we mention he also smiles when his people come home? We dare you to find anything cuter.

Jaro is fully house-trained, can be left home alone, and is happy to snooze or entertain himself with a toy or bone while you work. He loves attention and when it's time to play, he's all in for a game of tug-of-war, fetch or hide and seek. He enjoys his toys and bones, but is very respectful to furniture and leaves personal belongings alone.

Jaro has just a few small requests for his future family:

1. A home where he can be your one and only fur baby.
2. A spot in the suburbs or somewhere quiet with his own yard and an enclosed space to run outside -- he's finding the big city a little overwhelming (and we can't really fault him for that!).
3. A weekly peanut butter allowance -- it's his favorite!

Our September Dog of the Month is ... 🥁🥁🥁 Pam!

She goes by many names (Pamjam, Lovebug, Nugget) and is also known to have many sides to her personality. On one hand, she's incredibly sweet and wants nothing more than to be close to her people. She loves cozying up in the biggest pile of blankets and pillows she can find - bonus points if it includes her strawberry pillow or emotional support carrot.

On the other hand, she is a sassy queen who has strong opinions, especially about when dinner should happen. She takes neighborhood watch extremely seriously. Her arch nemesis is a 5lb dog named Mushu who terrorizes the streets (Mushu is completely unaware of this rivalry).

Pam is 9 years old and looking for her Jim (or Jill, she's not picky) to live a peaceful life in the suburbs with. For the month of September, Pam's adoption fee is only $150! To learn more about Pam, visit her full bio on our website. Registered adopters can email [email protected], as Pam doesn't attend our Saturday events.

It's Monday, you know the drill! Celebrating all the pups who found their families this past week, saying goodbye to the shelter forever as summer comes to a close.

We do not have an event this weekend due to the holiday - but you can still email us as a registered adopter to express interest in pups on our website! We will do our best to arrange meetings as fosters are available, or schedule for next week.

Today's Happy Tail is the story of Leroy, who was adopted by Carrie and Daniel in 2016. You might recognize him as the handsome boy on the back of our adoption van, or the inspiration for a training fund to help get pups the behavior support they need. Sadly, Leroy passed away recently but his legacy lives on in the most special corners of our organization thanks to Carrie and Daniel.

It was a rainy Saturday afternoon when everything changed. "Wtook the subway up, and were waiting for [the fosters] when I saw a little black lab tugging at a leash walking down 53rd," said Carrie. "I will never forget that sight. When we said goodbye to him that day (he actually already had an owner lined up - we were on the waitlist!) I gave him a hug and he put his front leg around me." Luckily fate stepped in and Leroy became a member of the family soon after.

When asked about adjusting to having Leroy in the family, they told us "Leroy was 4 when we got him, and was scared of other dogs. Muddy Paws recommended Instinct Training in Harlem, and we worked with them for a few months with positive reinforcement training. I can't recommend them enough (and this is why we helped Muddy Paws bring a full-time trainer on staff!). The training worked, and Leroy's stresses melted away."

They added "but really, Leroy hopped on for the ride. Literally and figuratively. We took him all over the city, on Metro North to Connecticut. When we briefly moved to Canada, he became a Porter Airlines frequent flyer and mastered customs. People loved having him on the flight - he was a very gentle soul. When our son was born, Leroy adjusted. Their relationship was short - Finn was about 5.5 years old when Leroy passed - but their bond was there nonetheless."

Carrie and Daniel fondly shared that "Leroy brought us love, patience, and in the end, an appreciation for the end of life. His health declined in the last two years and time slowed down for us. His walks got shorter, and he needed more care. His life was a gift to us and everyone around him. Our story with Leroy will stay with us forever. Once we feel ready, we will call up Muddy Paws."

Thank you to Carrie and Daniel for sharing Leroy's legacy with us. You all are in our hearts.

Coconut here! Just dropping in to say…I’m still waiting for my forever home.

This sweet girl is truly an absolute gem and we can't believe she hasn't been adopted yet. She’s lovable, cuddly, goofy, and the kind of dog who somehow makes friends with everyone she meets. She loves long walks, exploring the neighborhood, lounging in the grass, people-watching at the park, and then coming home to become a total couch potato.

She’s also a big fan of belly rubs, chew toys, chasing her toys around, and pretty much any opportunity to be by your side.

Coconut is a wonderful walking companion, a good listener, and an all-around fun-loving girl. She has so much love to give and would absolutely thrive with someone who can give her a steady routine, plenty of outdoor time, and lots of love and laughs.

So… if you’ve been looking for your new best friend, Coconut is still here waiting for you!

Big or small, young or old, floppy-eared or pointy-eared, lean build or rolls for days, we love ALL dogs and every size, shape and age they come in. Today, and every day, is National Dog Day to the volunteers, staff and fosters of Muddy Paws Rescue. 🐾

While we celebrate dogs and promote adoption on the daily, we can't forget how hard rescue work can be – we always think about the pups who are still waiting and our colleagues at our shelter partners who need our support now more than ever. Thankfully, rescue work is also so rewarding – we see dogs every day get a second chance and adopters light up when they've found their missing family member.

Here are just a few faces celebrating National Dog Day today, reminding you to adopt, foster, volunteer, share and/or donate! Learn more at muddypawsrescue.org💙
