In 2000, Ben & Jerry’s sold its socially conscious ice cream brand to Unilever with the agreement that an independent board would continue to govern Ben & Jerry’s. Now Yo Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield are engaged in a battle with the Magnum Ice Cream Company – a subsidiary of Unilever – and trying to from its current owner. On March 19 and 20, the UCF Board of Directors and senior staff members traveled to Tulsa, Oklahoma to attend UCF’s Board Meeting, as well as to take part in educational programming related to the Tulsa Race Massacre – the single deadliest and most destructive act of racial violence and domestic terrorism in U.S. history – which occurred in 1921.
