The Motor Company is devoted to creating and producing theater that is accessible and community-oriented. Our mission is to heighten our relationship to our city and surroundings by using public spaces as the impetus for story-telling and theatrical events. The Motor Company is a sponsored project of Fractured Atlas, a non-profit arts service organization. Contributions for the charitable purposes

of The Motor Company must be made payable to "Fractured Atlas" and are tax deductible to the extent permitted by law.

our shows tend to surprise people.

audiences never expect us to crash their picnic, or bring their favorite music from back home to the community garden, or deliver a heartfelt cowboy right to their doorstep. recent shows have brought together park & virtual spaces, the radio & an elevated train line, a saxophone busker & immersive retail space, ferry horns & shakespeare.

and hopefully this has folks seeing NYC, the backdrop of it all, a little differently. here, all the world is truly a stage, and is constantly living on the edge of those possibilities.

6 playwrights have spent the year creating new site-responsive scripts for the company, and we're just getting these wild & wooly babies up on their feet!

we've got peppy pups, hapless tourists, maritime disasters, picnicking ghosts, washed-up action stars, alien cruise ships, ai robots, chekovian family drama, time loops, and more!

these readings are currently for our eyes only, to help kick these scripts up to the next level, but keep your eyes peeled for public readings across the city this summer!

we're BUGGIN' OUT over how great the first weekend of 🍅 COMMUNAL SPACES🌻 went!

we spotted dragonflies & roly-polies in the compost, fled from rats through the subway tunnels, did battle over mutant plants, and danced to "la bamba" - a lovely time was had by all!

2025 PLAY ON wuz a total KNOCKOUT!
🐙💥🥊🐟
we were blown away (literally!) by this year's crop of young writers! yesterday's staged reading was hilarious, moving, and so much fun! actors & audience alike had a total ball watching alien robot reunions, haunted house pranks, videogame challenges, tea parties with judges, and an epic battle at sea.

congrats to all the young writers as well as program head - we can't wait for round 4 next summer!
