ABOUT US:

Mission Statement:
Healing TREE (Trauma Resources, Education & Entertainment) advocates healing from abuse and trauma rather than coping with the symptoms, in order to transform lives and, ultimately, society. Healing TREE is honored to have partnered with Waterwell to create the Decompression Space for The Ford / Hill Project BAM. Healing TREE provided staff for a Decompression Space in the theatre, for any audience members who would like support processing any immediate reactions to performances of this play about Anita Hill and Christine Blasey Ford, which grapples with the two women’s testimonies about workplace harassment and sexual assault in the very high pressure and volatile settings of the Senate Judiciary Committee hearings. Audience Resources were also developed to provide additional support. Waterwell is a nonprofit production company dedicated to telling engrossing stories that deliberately wrestle with complex civic questions in unexpected ways. We encourage our NYC friends to catch one of the final two shows tomorrow, Sunday, September 20th at BAM.

We’re excited to share an upcoming program from our friends at the Lalich Center on Cults and Coercion that we believe may resonate with many survivors and healing communities.

Their workshop, Rebuilding Your Relationship with Music, is designed for individuals who have experienced cults or high-control environments and are exploring how music may have been shaped by those experiences.

Led by board-certified music therapist Dorian Wallace, this 6-session online workshop offers a supportive, trauma-informed space to reconnect with music in ways that feel safe, grounding, and empowering.

Participants will explore personal associations with music, emotional responses, and practical tools for integrating music back into everyday life.

🕗 8:00 PM ET / 5:00 PM PT

While the intentions of the mandatory hug-and-kiss age-old ritual are innocent enough, what we are telling our small kids by forcing them to pass out hugs and kisses is that their body is not their own.

Consent is often thought of as a topic for the teenage years, but experts now agree that body autonomy and consent can (and should!) be taught to kids as young as 1-2 years old. Body autonomy is the idea that your body belongs to you and you are in charge of it, an empowering message that helps children protect themselves from unwanted touch at any age.

Find tips to teach body consent while preparing for family gatherings from our partners at the Face It Movement: https://bit.ly/3cgx0Q0

Please help support this timely, quirky, soulful new play, and our first co-production between Healing TREE and Divine Riot !

When Ash, the youngest of three adult foster siblings, has a mental health crisis, their family reunites in the New York City home that shaped them all. As Ash uses their background in video game building to mire through layers of memory and myth, a battle ensues to overcome their soul-family’s unresolved wounds. ‘The Big Bad’ explores intergenerational trauma, marginalized identities and the supernatural - and asks the timely question, “What drives us to keep moving through despair?”

This groundbreaking full-length play is written by Lanford Wilson Award-winning and Showtime series staff writer Ren Dara Santiago .

At a time when mental health resources, LGBTQIA+ lives, and work that doesn’t cower to mainstream marketability and dares to ask the tougher questions are under attack, we hope you will join us in creating this crucial piece of art.
