The New York-North Jersey Chapter of the Appalachian Mountain Club (also known as the AMC) hosts over 2,000 outdoor recreation activities per year. We were the very first Chapter in AMC. Our 12,000 plus members come from throughout the New York City metro, southeastern New York, and northeastern New Jersey area. Whatever your outdoor interests are, we have something for you. rs, the New York-North Jersey Chapter is the second largest of the 12 regional chapters of the Appalachian Mountain Club. Our Chapter offers its members more than 20 outdoor events on most weekends, many for beginners. We know that you would enjoy many of them, and we’d like you to come along. We invite you to join us on our activities and to help us conserve and preserve those outdoor resources that we all enjoy. The New York-North Jersey Chapter of the Appalachian Mountain Club celebrated its 100th Anniversary in 2012, and was the first Chapter to be formed in AMC. We promote the protection, enjoyment, and understanding of the mountains, forests, waters, and trails of the Appalachian region, and believe these resources have intrinsic worth and provide recreational opportunities, spiritual renewal, and ecological and economic health for the region. The Appalachian Mountain Club (“AMC”) is one of the oldest outdoors groups in the United States. We offer activities for all types and levels of outdoor enthusiasts, including hiking, backpacking, rock climbing, mountaineering, kayaking, bicycling and more! AMC has 12 regional chapters in the Northeast region that stretch from Maine to Washington, D.C. The New York-North Jersey Chapter is the second largest with over 12,000 members. We have over 100,000 members nationally. Young Members (“YM”) is an affinity group within AMC for members in their 20’s and 30’s. YM holds monthly outdoors events (e.g., day hikes, camping trips, kayaking trips) and a happy hour on every third Thursday of the month (“Thirsty Third Thursdays”). A few times a year, we hold inter-chapter events with YM groups from the 11 other chapters in our organization.
