Robert F. “Bobby” Wagner Jr. (1944-1993) was the son of a three-term New York City mayor, and grandson of a U.S. Senator. In 1973 Bobby was elected as Councilman at Large from Manhattan, then beginning in 1977 he was appointed by Mayor Koch to a series of important city posts, including deputy mayor, president of the board of education, and chairman of the city planning commission. Bobby Wagner Walk is the section of the East River Esplanade that extends between 90th and 125th Streets.
