We can’t wait for the 2026 TCS NYC Marathon coming up this Sunday, November 1! Read our short interview with Christine Walsh, who is running the marathon on Team Edible Schoolyard NYC. Christine works for Paul Hastings, one of ESYNYC’s corporate partners.

Edible Schoolyard NYC is a proud charity partner of the 2026 TCS New York City Marathon. We are excited to cheer on 4 runners on Team ESYNYC who are fundraising in support of our programs. Each runner has committed to raising a minimum of $3,500 in support of edible education for kids in NYC.

Our gardens are showing off this fall! From beans to tomatoes to giant squashes and more, ESYNYC grows and harvests dozens of different plants every year. 🍅 Our team loves sharing harvested vegetables, fruits, herbs, and flowers with our school communities, using them in cafeteria tastings, crafting kitchen classroom recipes with them, and using them to teach students about gardening. Thank you to our incredible Garden Team and Program Managers for taking such good care of our garden spaces! 🌱

Nothing better than a beautiful garden space transformation! 🌱 Earlier this year, we partnered with P.S. 39 The Francis J. Murphy Jr. School on Staten Island to build out their school garden as well as revitalize the front of the school after it had been under construction for many years.

With the help of ESYNYC Associate Board Members and the continued support of the amazing P.S. 39 staff, together we beautified the garden by building garden beds and an archway, spreading mulch, planting various flowers and plants, and preparing the space for learning. The front of the school was also revitalized after many years of scaffolding: we added garden beds and planted flowers, reset stones in existing garden beds, pruned overgrown shrubs and damaged trees, removed overgrown vines from trees, and planted herbaceous and woody perennials.

ESYNYC is excited to share these before & after photos over the year. Thank you staff, ESYNYC Associate Board Members Elias, Sarah, and Sophie, and our ESYNYC garden team for their incredible work! 🌻

Happy Latinx Heritage Month! 🎉 ESYNYC is proud to celebrate our Latinx school communities by utilizing recipes from their communities in our kitchen classrooms. In honor of , we’re spotlighting a common plant that is used across Latine recipes: peppers!

Coming in various shapes and sizes, peppers are added to dishes like salsa, chiles rellenos, sofrito dishes, and more. Swipe left to check out some peppers grown in our very own ESYNYC gardens. We love sharing them (and other tasty produce) with school communities, for distribution at farmstands, and for use in kitchen classroom recipes. 🫑

Last week, students at P.S./M.S. 7 took part in a hot peppers lesson where they got to taste bell peppers, jalapenos, serranos, and chiles de arbol with milk to soothe. They also made Salvadoran salsa roja to go with the pupusas they will be making next week!

A huge shoutout to the volunteers who helped get our garden at P.S. 7 ready for the change in seasons! 🍂🌱

From building shelves for our tropical plants in the greenhouse to w**ding, clearing debris, and sifting compost, volunteers prepped the garden for the months ahead. Thanks to the team for spending the day in the garden with us!

Thank you to all the wonderful community volunteers who came out on a beautiful October Saturday to P.S. 216! Volunteers helped move tropical plants into the greenhouse for the winter, w**ded, chopped compost, and mowed. We’re so appreciative of the time and energy they gave to ensure our gardens are ready for students to learn and explore.

Our students do a lot of garden tasks themselves, but our small but mighty garden team needs help with bigger projects too. Want to get involved? Our next community volunteer day is coming up on October 23. For more info and to sign up visit: https://volunteer.bloomerang.co/JE/q28keh0f0a8j2o

These plumcots received a 17/10 rating from students at P.S. 109! ⭐ 5th graders Andy and Grace tasted plumcots as part of a cafeteria tasting last month. As we jump into the new school year, our team is so excited to see students tasting new fruits and veggies. P.S. 109 ESYNYC Program Manager Asa shared: “Cafeteria tastings give students an opportunity to try new things and develop their sense of taste and what they like and don’t like in a low stakes environment. Our tastings also bring fresh peak season fruit to the cafeteria.” 🌱

A big thank you to for their continuing partnership, which makes bringing plumcots and other delicious produce to schools possible!

A big thank you to our volunteers from who joined us at P.S./M.S. 7! Volunteers helped organize our storage closet, w**d the school garden, and prepare tropical plants for the colder months by moving them into the greenhouse.

Among them was our calamansi orange tree, a citrus plant native to the Philippines. Greenhouses help extend growing seasons, allowing us to grow plants that would not otherwise thrive in our NYC climate. Thank you, , for your support and hard work!
