The Ukrainian Institute of America was privileged to partner with the Постійне представництво України при ООН / Perm Mission of Ukraine to the UN to host a celebration of the 35th anniversary of Ukraine’s renewed independence, bringing together diplomats from around the world and leaders of the Ukrainian American community. From the Ambassador’s words and engaging exchanges with members of the international diplomatic community to Ukrainian music, culture, and cuisine, the evening offered a wonderful opportunity to share Ukraine’s rich heritage and enduring spirit with the international community. We were especially pleased to welcome UN Under-Secretary-General for United Nations Department of Political and Peacebuilding Affairs Rosemary A. DiCarlo, whose presence was a meaningful expression of the international community’s support for Ukraine. Above all, we were deeply honored to welcome heroes of Ukraine and to celebrate with them the independence they have fought so courageously to defend.
We are grateful to H.E. Dr. Andrii Melnyk, Permanent Representative of Ukraine to the United Nations, and Dr. Svitlana Melnyk, for their partnership in creating such a warm and memorable evening. And throughout the evening, the flavors of Ukraine—including Ukraine’s UNESCO-recognized borscht—helped us welcome our guests with true Ukrainian hospitality.
