Our Story
Working together to prevent pet homeless and reduce animal suffering through promoting adoption, fostering, education and support.
COVID-19 UPDATE: In response to the economic crisis set off by the coronavirus pandemic, PSA NYC has shifted its focus to helping pet owners in need. In April 2020, we launched a COVID-19 Relief Effort - The Hungry Pet Project: Feeding Pets in Crisis. When we saw reports of large scale food insecurity sweeping across the city, we decided the most effective use of our time and resources was to help finanically struggling pet owners feed their pets. Our hope is that by providing food and care items, we can prevent pets from being surrendered to a shelter or, worse, being abandoned to the streets. No one should have to choose between feeding themselves or feeding their pets. We are partnering with West Side Campaign Against Hunger, one of the largest food pantries in the city, to distribute the pet supplies to those most in need. Let’s keep pets with their families!
Our primary focus for the past 6 years has been improving the lives of abandoned animals at NYC’s large municipal shelter, Animal Care Centers of NYC, and assisting local rescue groups dedicated to finding homes for at risk cats and dogs.
As volunteers and fosters, we are deeply affected by the plight of animals in the shelter and have made it our mission to help. PSA NYC promotes animals for adoption and encourages people to foster and volunteer. We raise funds to buy beds, toys, and enrichment items to improve the quality of life for the animals while they wait for homes or placement. We also buy medical and emergency supplies. We never want the animals to go without what they need and work with shelter staff to insure we make the best use of our funds.
