⚠️ Federal Education Cuts Are Abandoning Students with Disabilities ⚠️

As the government shutdown stretches on, 466 employees of the U.S. Department of Education were fired. This includes nearly all department staff responsible for roughly $15 billion in special education funding and more than 250 employees at the Office of Civil Rights.

Without adequate staff, parents will fight battles alone—with no backup when their kids don’t get what they need. And it’s the students themselves who will suffer most with fewer services, worse support, and futures cut short.

Now more than ever, we need our elected officials to hear from the thousands of families who have benefited from special education services.

👉 Add your name today to demand that Congress reverse these devastating firings and protect the rights of students with disabilities:

Lincoln Center Presents- San Juan Hill: A New York Story by Etienne Charles

Caption will be shown on October 23, 2025

Created by composer Etienne Charles, San Juan Hill: A New York Story is an immersive multimedia creation that celebrates a vital chapter of New York's past. Through music, visuals, and first-person accounts, this powerful work shines a light on the historic communities of the area where Lincoln Center stands today. Blending diverse musical styles—including ragtime, jazz, stride piano, swing, blues, mambo, paseo, Antillean waltz, calypso, funk, disco, and Hip-Hop—with historical film and compelling narratives, the work showcases the myriad cultures that migrants brought to New York from the American South and the Caribbean. Featuring Etienne Charles & Creole Soul, Frost Symphony Orchestra and special guests, this piece is a testament to the enduring spirit and forgotten stories of a community that helped shape the city's cultural landscape.

Commissioned by Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts

Note: The 2022 premiere of this work was co-presented by Lincoln Center and the New York Philharmonic, performed by Etienne Charles & Creole Soul and the New York Philharmonic, and created in collaboration with a range of artists and academics, including Carl Hancock Rux, Elena Pinderhughes, DJ Logic, playwright Eljon Wardally, video artist Maya Cozier, graffiti/visual artist Wicked GF (Gary Fritz), visual artist Bayete Ross Smith, and historian Julia Foulkes, among others.

Join ACB in urging Congress to support the Blind Americans Return to Work Act!

Today, Americans who are blind receiving Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) face an unfair “earnings cliff” — if they earn just a bit too much, their benefits are cut off completely. This system discourages people from working and limits economic independence.

The Blind Americans Return to Work Act would replace the cliff with a fair, gradual reduction in benefits. This model would empower people who are blind to pursue meaningful employment without fear of losing all support.

It only takes a minute to ask your members of Congress to support this critical legislation. Send a message today: https://speak4.app/lp/5t01cset/?ts=1759238261
