Morningside Heights Community Coalition

Morningside Heights Community Coalition Overdevelopment has come to Morningside Heights! IS THE SKY THE LIMIT HERE IN MORNINGSIDE HEIGHTS? WILL OUR FUTURE BE CAST IN CONCRETE?

MHCC is a neighborhood advocacy group focused on limiting luxury overdevelopment, preserving affordable housing, and maintaining the character and quality of life in Morningside Heights. A recent spate of development threatens to change the face of our historic community with luxury housing. From the new apartments on the grounds of St. John the Divine to the former nurses residence diagonally acr

oss the street, to what’s going up at Jewish Theological Seminary and Union Theological Seminary…. our neighborhood is changing …and not for the better. To say nothing of the “soft sites,” those low buildings, which dot our neighborhood. To look into these developments, we decided to initiate the Morningside Heights Community Coalition (MHCC). This new organization consists of community groups in MSH and individual coops and tenants throughout the neighborhood who are working together to try and have an impact on these projects.

🏘️ Since 2022, MHCC has advocated for meaningful action to address the affordable housing crisis in Morningside Heights, including urging Columbia University to preserve rent-regulated housing and create affordable opportunities for local residents.

We’re pleased to share that 12 deeply affordable apartments are now being made available to community members who are not affiliated with the University, exceeding the original commitment of eight units.

While there is still much work to be done, this is a positive step toward ensuring that long-time neighbors can continue to live in the community they help sustain. Applications are open through May 31.

Please help spread the word to anyone who may be eligible. https://rentroundup.com/
