(La Casa) is a (501[c][3]) non-profit cultural, educational and research center organized in 1981 by pioneers driven to preserve, promote and advance Puerto Rico’s national heritage in the diaspora for the public benefit. La Casa filed as a domestic not-for-profit corporation in the State of New York on November 14, 1983. La Casa continues its vital mission 40 years later through its programs, events and workshops, from the same beautiful historic district of El Barrio (Spanish Harlem) it was founded in, engaging all people through the arts, literature, history, sciences and advocacy for a more prosperous and equitable society.
