(SILCA) is a 501(c)3 and is the parent organization of Liberians residing in Richmond County, Borough of Staten Island, City of New York. is a 501 (c3) membership humanitarian organization originally established in 1984 in order to help struggling Liberians settle into the local community financially, culturally, emotionally, medically, and socially. Today, SILCA continues to build the lives of st
udents, families, individuals, Liberian War refugees, and all diverse members of the local community, helping them develop themselves academically, preparing them for higher education, and inspiring an excellent work ethic. Over ten years ago, SILCA began engaging in a hunger prevention program by operating a food pantry that provides food weekly to hundreds of people, including the homeless, of diverse nationalities, residing in Staten Island. SILCA also provides financial empowerment through community market fairs and job readiness and referral initiatives. The organization began youth mentoring & counseling, legal & immigration services, after school, and ex-convicts programs in the beginning of 2013. Currently, the organization is looking to restart these programs. The organization currently has an existing food panty that is fully functional. This food pantry serves over a hundred and more residents of different nationalities in the community. To promote unity, harmony understanding, communication and cooperation among all Liberians, Liberian descendants and others residing in Richmond county Borough of Staten, Island, New York. To seek and secure social and economic services and other opportunities for its members. To empower its members socially, economically, medically and educationally. To foster goodwill and give charity to people in need.
