New York City’s AAPI communities need culturally and linguistically accessible healthcare services now more than ever.

As we recently told the The Polis Project, NYC’s community-based organizations are providing patient navigators to community members who need language access services in our hospitals, while also ensuring immigrant and limited English proficient New Yorkers have access to culturally appropriate food, language accessible services, and culturally sensitive mental health care.

That’s why we are urging City Council Speaker Julie Menin and her New York City Council colleagues to enhance funding to the City Council-funded Access Health NYC initiative to $4.5 million. Enhancing this funding will enable our CBOs to continue to do what they do best — serve our communities at a time of intense need.

CACF convened our member organizations from across the city in South Brooklyn on Tuesday for a meeting with New York City’s Deputy Mayor for Health and Human Services Dr. Helen Arteaga.

Throughout the roundtable discussion, we highlighted the integral role community-based organizations play in ensuring immigrant and limited English proficient New Yorkers have access to culturally appropriate food, language accessible services, and culturally sensitive mental health care.

As we told Deputy Mayor Arteaga, NYC’s community-based organizations play a key role serving as a bridge between city services and AAPI New Yorkers of all ages and backgrounds. We are eager to make those relationships even stronger in the years to come.

Thank you to all of our member organizations who joined us for this important meeting! We are also sending gratitude to CACF member organization APNA Community Services who warmly hosted the meeting at their space!

CACF is proud to be a co-leader of Access Health NYC.

Support from the New York City Council initiative enables community-based organizations from across the five boroughs to get accurate and much needed healthcare resources to the community members that need it the most.

We're urging Speaker Julie Menin and New York City Council to enhance funding for Access Health NYC to $4.5 million so that we can continue to provide New Yorkers with the care they need.

CACF’s Co-Executive Director Anita Gundanna recently spoke to WAMC Northeast Public Radio about the need for community-centered mental health support for AAPI youth across New York State.

As Anita notes, working with AAPI community-based organizations that have the trust and cultural specificity to talk about the racial and cultural factors that impact AAPI youth is crucial for healing.

We are proud to work and advocate alongside these CBOs as they push for more funding and resources for our youth.

With dedicated funding for the CBOs providing encouraging, mental health-focused spaces for our AAPI young people, we can work to ensure our young people are getting the mental health support they need.

The Coalition for Asian American Children and Families wants more mental health supports for Asian American and Pacific Islander youth. WAMC's Sajina Shrestha spoke with its Co-Executive Director, Anita Gundanna, about the importance and the barriers to mental health care for AAPI youth in New York.

Applications will be accepted from now until 11:59 pm on Monday, March 9, 2026.

Our Co-Executive Director Vanessa Leung is in The New York Times this week highlighting the benefits and importance of school integration.

Our coalition is looking forward to working with Mayor-elect Zohran Kwame Mamdani on strengthening integration throughout the five boroughs.

As CACF has always said, a diverse city needs integrated schools. Providing all of New York City’s children with diverse school environments not only strengthens their education, but also better prepares them for the world they live in.
