What happens when the Bronx comes together around a shared vision for the future?

Over two powerful days at the Bronx Economic Development Summit, we brought together changemakers from every corner of the borough and beyond to imagine, and begin building an economy that creates opportunity, stability, and wealth for Bronx residents.

From inspiring keynote speakers and thought-provoking panels to hands-on workshops and meaningful connections, the Summit highlighted both proven national models and the decades of work Bronx leaders have already invested in creating community-driven solutions.

This wasn't just a conversation about economic development. It was a commitment to action.

The work continues through new partnerships, working groups, and the implementation of the Bronx's first Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy.

For two inspiring days, community leaders, residents, workers, organizers, small business owners, educators, labor unions, faith leaders, investors, planners, and government partners came together at the historic Andrew Freedman Home for the Bronx’s first-ever Economic Development Summit.

Together, we explored what it takes to build an economy that works for the people who already call the Bronx home, one rooted in community wealth, shared ownership, economic democracy, and long-term opportunity.

From housing stability and stronger commercial corridors to worker ownership, local investment, and community-led development, the conversations were bold, honest, and action-oriented. Most importantly, they reinforced a powerful truth: the people of the Bronx create its wealth, and they deserve to share in it.

This Summit marks an important milestone, but the work continues through new partnerships, working groups, and the implementation of the Bronx's first Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy.

📅 Join Our Bronx and ICA Group on June 17 from 10–11 AM for an information session on a new training program designed for Bronx organizations that support local businesses. Learn how worker-owned cooperatives can strengthen economic development and hear about an upcoming fellowship and workshop series.

The Bronx deserves an economy that works for the people who live here.

In a new Bronx Times op-ed, Our Bronx Executive Director Sandra Lobo and Bronx Economic Development Corporation President Winston Peters make the case for a new vision of economic development, one rooted in community ownership, shared prosperity, and opportunities for Bronx residents to build wealth and shape their own future.

The op-ed highlights the Bronx Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy (CEDS), a community-driven roadmap that reflects years of organizing, planning, and collaboration across sectors. It challenges us to think beyond growth for growth's sake and focus on creating an economy where working families, small businesses, and local communities can thrive.

This conversation continues at the Bronx Economic Development Summit on June 5-6, where local and national leaders will explore innovative approaches to community wealth building, employee ownership, impact investing, equitable real estate development, and more.

Join us as we work to build an economy that works for the Bronx.

52 years of Building Our Bronx 💛 ✨

For generations, Our Bronx has been a political home where tenants, young people, clergy, workers, families, and neighbors came together to fight for dignity, justice, and the right to shape the future of our communities.

After 30 years of organizing, persistence, and visioning, the Kingsbridge Armory is finally moving forward with a plan rooted in real community investment and ownership, proving that economic development can truly benefit the people who live here.

This victory was built by an ecosystem of organizers, labor unions, faith institutions, elected leaders, development partners, and Bronx residents who refused to let go of the belief that our borough deserves more.

Thank you to everyone who celebrated with us and continues to build a Bronx where our people can stay, grow, govern, and thrive. ✨

Moments from Our Bronx’s 52nd Anniversary Gala celebrating 52 Years of Building Our Bronx. 🥂

🏰 With full hearts, we paid tribute to the three decades of leadership, community organizing, and partnership and innovation across sectors that paved the way for a ground-breaking economic development project at the Kingsbridge Armory.

We are proud to have uplifted six honorees who each brought visionary leadership from the different sectors that coalesced to build a new model for economic development at the Armory.
-Wilson Martinez, Deacon, Our Lady of Angels Catholic Church
-Lucia Gomez, National Immigration & Worker Rights Coordinator, Laborers’ International Union of North America
-Brendan Griffith, President, Central Labor Council
-Elisabeth Ortega-Bailey, Kingsbridge Armory Leader
-Pierina Sanchez, City Council Member, District 14
-Elisse Douglass, Founder, East Freedman & Main

This is only the beginning. Of bringing our community’s vision to life at the Armory. And of scaling these successes for community ownership across the Bronx.
