Friends of Conanca

Friends of Conanca Friends of CONANCA is a not for profit organization set up to raise funds for underprivileged children fighting cancer in Nicaragua Together we will save lives.

In the fall of 2012, I spent 4 months in Nicaragua and during that time volunteered at CONANCA (Comisión Nicaragüense de Ayuda al Niño con Cáncer - An organization that helps Nicaraguan children in their fight against cancer with early detection, providing treatment and financial support). Every week I met new children, a new family who had been touched with cancer. The population served by CONANC

A is extremely poor - many living on less than two dollars a day. Two months after returning from Nicaragua to NY, my 14 month old got diagnosed with leukemia. It has been an incredibly difficult year for us but having seen the struggles the families in Nicaragua faced everyday, I feel eternally grateful. I am thankful that I do not have to worry about feeding my kids or keeping a roof over their head while also taking care of a very sick child. We want to help these children in their fight against cancer and so we have founded Friends of CONANCA. Lucy Philipp
