Learning Through Partnership and Experience

Kageno Rwanda was honored to host students from the Yale School of the Environment for a three-day immersive learning experience focused on community-led sustainable development.

Through activities including fruit tree planting, visits with eco-clubs and women’s cooperatives, greenhouse tours, and conservation learning in Nyungwe National Park, students gained firsthand insight into the connections between environmental stewardship, sustainable agriculture, and community well-being.

We are grateful for this opportunity to share Kageno’s model and inspire the next generation of conservation and development leaders.

Earth Day reminds us that caring for vulnerable communities and caring for the planet go hand in hand.

In Rwanda and Kenya, we work alongside families to restore and protect the environment while building stronger futures. Through conservation efforts, sustainable farming practices, tree nurseries, and community gardens, families are learning to cultivate the land, protect biodiversity, and create lasting resilience.

This Earth Day, we celebrate the leadership of communities choosing sustainability and hope. 🌎 💚

In communities where hunger once held children back, nourishing meals are opening doors to brighter futures. Across our supported schools on Rusinga and Mfangano Islands in Kenya, over 2,700 students now enjoy balanced meals five days a week. The transformation is real and heartfelt:

Sheril Ashley Ouma, a sixth grade student from Uya Primary shares that, “The Kageno feeding program saves time for my studies and helps my parents save money. I attend school regularly because I know I’ll get food here.”

“We’ve seen improved and stable attendance, and better health among the children,” adds Head Teacher Samuel Mboya at Dr. Williams Baptist Primary School.

Every meal is a step toward stronger communities and improved education. 💚🌍

Today, April 7, we pause to honor the victims of the 1994 Genocide Against the Tutsi; more than one million lives lost in 100 days of unimaginable violence.

As we enter the season of Kwibuka, “to remember”, we are called not only to reflect, but to respond.

Because remembrance, on its own, is not enough.

Kwibuka 32 is a reminder that division, dehumanization, and silence carry consequences. And that in a world still facing rising identity-based violence and extremism, the responsibility to act belongs to all of us.

At Kageno, we believe in something simple but powerful: our shared humanity is stronger than hate, when we choose it.

So today, and every day, we choose to stand against injustice, to speak when it’s uncomfortable, and to build communities rooted in dignity, empathy, and peace.

Because how we remember shapes how we move forward.

On International Women’s Day, we celebrate women like Esperance. 💜

Years ago, Esperance stood outside her home in Banda Village, Rwanda, with three hungry children and nothing left to feed them. Her husband had left, her small plot of land could barely produce food, and malnutrition had struck her family.
Desperate to help her children, Esperance made a brave decision: she walked to Kageno and asked for help.

Her child began receiving daily meals and education at Kageno’s nursery school, while Esperance learned modern farming techniques and started a small vegetable business.

Today, her children are healthy and in school. Her family eats balanced meals every day. She owns four plots of land, a cow, and one of her children is preparing for university.

“I discovered I was not poor,” Esperance says. “I was untrained. Now farming is my business.”

When women are given opportunity and support, entire communities grow stronger.

This Giving Tuesday, we invite you to help us continue our work in creating sustainable communities and offering hope where it is most needed. Giving Tuesday is more than just a day - it’s a global movement that celebrates kindness, collaboration, and the spirit of giving. Your support brings clean water, education, healthcare, and livelihood to families in Kenya and Rwanda — giving children brighter futures, women new opportunities, and entire communities a path forward.

Please consider making a special gift today: kageno.org/donate. Every donation, no matter the size, helps build a more hopeful, sustainable world. ❤️

Twenty years ago, at the height of the AIDS crisis on Rusinga Island, hope felt out of reach. Families were losing loved ones, children were being raised by grandparents, and women were risking everything just to survive.

Your support helped us change that.

Today, Kageno continues to provide HIV testing, treatment support, education, and compassionate care across Kenya and Rwanda. Sub-Saharan Africa still faces the highest HIV rates in the world, and our work is far from over.

When you stand with us, you help families reclaim their futures. You give hope. You save lives.

Thank you for being part of this journey.

Today, our hearts are full. 🧡

Because of you, children, families, and entire communities in Kenya and Rwanda are experiencing real, lasting change. This Thanksgiving, we’re especially grateful for:

• Our extraordinary donors whose generosity fuels every meal served, every clinic visit, every classroom opened, every seed planted.
• Our dedicated staff and volunteers, both on the ground and here at home, who show up with compassion, skill, and relentless commitment to making life better for others.
• The families and young people in our communities, whose strength, resilience, and hope guide and inspire everything we do.

As we gather with those we love, we’re reminded that transformation doesn’t happen in isolation, it happens because people like you choose to stand with us. Your partnership turns challenges into opportunities and helps build communities where children can thrive, parents can earn a dignified living, and hope grows every single day.

From all of us at Kageno: thank you.

Your belief in this work, and in the people we serve, makes you an essential part of our global family. We’re grateful for you today and every day.
