The Association for the Advancement of Creative Musicians (AACM), a non-profit tax-exempt arts organization co-founded in 1965 by Dr. Muhal Richard Abrams, Jodie Christian, Kelan Phil Cohran, and Steve McCall, is one of the oldest musicians associations in the United States. Since its founding in Chicago, Illinois in 1965, the organization's members have developed a body of work that encompasses

the spectrum of traditional and contemporary music. a non-profit tax-exempt entity was established in 1983. functions as an ensemble of composers and performers whose mission is to present concerts that feature world premieres, which are composed by AACM members. The AACM is significantly unique in that it has nurtured and brought to fruition so many accomplished composers and performers. The organization's artists have developed a body of work that has achieved lasting significance across borders of music genres and geography to play a critical role in the ever evolving process of music creation and its vital influence throughout the world. AACM members who have been featured in our programs include: Anthony Braxton, Roscoe Mitchell, Wadada Leo Smith, Henry Threadgill, Thurman Barker, Frank Gordon, Adegoke Steve Colson, Iqua Colson, Chico Freeman, Amina Claudine Myers, George Lewis, Reggie Nicholson, Leonard Jones, Peggy Abrams, Richarda Abrams and posthumously Dr. Muhal Richard Abrams, Joseph Jarman, Leroy Jenkins, Kalaparusha Ahra Difda, Lester Bowie, Steve McCall, Fred Anderson, John Stubblefield and Fred Hopkins.

Thank You, Amina! Birthday Celebration & Listening Party March 22, 3:00p.m. to 8:00 p.m. @ Mabou Mines Theater, 150 First Avenue, 2nd Floor

Thank You, Amina! will be a free-flowing event that offers a rare opportunity to listen to Amina's recordings as she guides us through stories that trace her journey from Arkansas to Chicago’s AACM to international stages. She will be in conversation with Dr. W.S. Tkweme, Director of Graduate Studies for the Department of Pan-African Studies, University of Louisville.
Set 1. 3:00-4:00 p.m. Becoming Amina: Arkansas, Chicago, 1st recordings, the original African Blues
Set 2. 4:30 - 5:30 p.m. At the Piano: Composer's varied gifts for piano, bands and vocal ensembles

Generation IV a female gospel group formed by legend and Amina Claudine Myers was featured on the Voices of Healing and Liberation concert 2/21/26 presented by JGI at Bedford Central Presbyterian Church in Brooklyn. member Richarda Abrams (daughter of co-founder and legend Dr. Muhal Richard Abrams .mu ), along with Pyeng Threadgill and her daughter Luna Threadgill-Moderbacher (respectively the daughter and grand daughter of legend ), studied voice and/or gospel music privately with Ms. Myers. From those studies Ms. Myers formed Generation IV, paying tribute to the female gospel groups from the 1950’s and onward.
