The organization will service families with housing, education, health, children's education, and life skills. Many families in urban communities do not know where to go or where to start looking for help. Some families or individuals seek help for their issues and are sent in different directions; which will frustrate them to the point they stop looking for help they badly need. Sonia’s Empowerin
g Families Foundation, Inc., will provide all the necessary assistance to families in need. For instance: parent classrooms to better understand what their children are learning in schools, so that parents could help them enhanced teaching at home. Where individuals come to a adult learning center, where they can further their education. Food pantries, that families or individual can pick up food, meeting their nutritional needs. A must needed recreation center for both adults and children. The organization will have a "Help Floor," where Guidance Counselors and Social workers provide families with mental and other needed assistance. I got into this line of business in 2003 when I started working in a school as a Parent Coordinator, where the position was put in place to help parents of the school children. As time went on the position got a little complicated due to changes, families were no longer being guided the way they should be like the start of the position. I always believed that when a parent is empowered with the right information, their children succeed. For that reason, I started this organization which untied my hands and I can help the need of the people of the community. My favorite part of having a community organization is the fulfilling feeling to see smiles on peoples' faces walking out with proper guidance. Also, being a part of this organization along with my staff, Sonia’s Empowering Families Foundation can be a lot of fun! While working in the position of a Parent Coordinator, it prepared me with the knowledge that I have today. Appropriate know-how of people in need is the key to assisting low-income families in the community. One most beneficial training I received was; train the trainer workshops there were extremely informative. I’m a mother, a people person and love animals. I live and worked all my life in New York City. I think of myself as an ambition/ambitious person. The things I love most in life are my family, good company, laughter, my pets, but most importantly is my relationship with God. Have been helping people for 25 years, and loving it.
