In 2015, Cameroon’s Digital Strategic Plan revealed that only 4% of its population was proficient in digital methods. To combat that statistic, Port Bell Academy (PBA) offers professional education and training for women in Douala, Cameroon.

PBA’s technological and digital programs include supplementary education for high school students, continuous skills training for working professionals of all ages and stages, and an outreach program for those who have limited resources. Through PBA programs, hundreds of women enter the digital universe and learn about its incredible opportunities every year.

As we highlight women and girls in science around the world this week, consider supporting Port Bell Academy! To find out more about Port Bell Academy (an American Initiatives partner), please visit https://www.american-initiatives.org/cameroon👆

Many children in South African townships struggle to finish school, and those who finish are often still unhappy with their results.
- Many cannot afford to study at resourced schools
- Their classrooms are over-crowded
- They lack basic learning materials

SOLE Institute promotes African art and culture by sponsoring schools who wish to begin programs with the Indalo Initiative. These programs help them purchase instruments and art materials. SOLE Institute also partners with Mitra Academy in Johannesburg to provide quality education to underprivileged children with academic potential from the surrounding townships.

For 30+ years, SENDAS has improved the lives of women and families in underserved rural areas of Bolivia. The project runs CEFIM, a technical school offering entrepreneurship programs.

The entrepreneurship programs help students:
☑️ Commercialize agricultural and gastronomical products
☑️ Turn artisanal skills into small businesses
☑️ Participate in the rural tourism economy

These programs help eradicate illiteracy and poverty in places where most families live below the poverty line. For more information, visit https://www.american-initiatives.org/asociacion-sendas👩‍🍳

In 2021, American Initiatives partner Kumbel interviewed the heads of three vocational schools of technology and learned that less than 10% of girls at the schools were studying for technical careers. At the end of their training, less than 1% of those women worked in their specialty, while their male peers often had job offers even before completing their training.

Based on this staggering information, Kumbel launched Kumbel Lab to help young women “decode” their technological talents and start their careers in the technology sector.

Kazakhstan needs skilled women who can inspire others and take initiative in their communities. Kumbel believes that women have a critical role to play in the field of technology.
