On April 28, Alex Montaldo sits down with Diahana Perez on New York Live to talk about his non-profit stoPD and its mission to transform Parkinson’s care through movement, science, and community.

From over a decade of work at Gleason’s Gym to pioneering programs that blend strength training, cognitive engagement, and the arts, Alex shares how stoPD is redefining what’s possible for people living with Parkinson’s—and beyond—now expanding to The Watermark at Brooklyn Heights with a new program that also serves the aging population without Parkinson’s.

Support the Parkinson's Community! Help us make a difference!

Dear Friends,

Yes, it was a challenging year.

But, in spite of the challenges, we’re proud to report that we not only survived another year of the pandemic... we are ending 2022 stronger than ever! You might say that we “rolled with the punches,” finding creative ways to continue our important work of improving the quality of life for people living with Parkinson’s Disease.

Now, as the year begins to draw to a close, thanks to the continued support of loyal friends like you, we can look back and take pride in the many ways we were able to adapt -- and even expand our offerings:

*We completed the first official tuition free online creative writing program, in
collaboration with New York University’s Drama Therapy Department.

*We watched our creative writing program grow into an amazing project -- with our
participants writing and performing virtually, an original play entitled “The Journey of a lifetime.”
Professionally edited and taped for streaming, the film is creating a good deal of excitement within the Drama Therapy community, showcasing the project’s
many benefits to those living with PD.

*stoPD continued its partnership with the Marlene Meyerson JCC in Manhattan, offering virtual
and in-person boxing classes.

*stoPD, in collaboration with Martial Arts expert, David Kaplan, created and launched
“Balanced Flow,” a brand-new program specifically designed to improve balance
through Kung Fu and Tai Chi based training.

*stoPD awarded several scholarships to our boxing program, ensuring that participation
not be limited by income.

And, we have exciting plans for the year ahead! These include the further development of a stoPD/NYU Theater Program for Parkinson’s that will feature live performances. Also planned -- a research project on voice and cognition, expansion of our scholarship offerings AND, based on the most current research, exciting new programs that will offer unique and highly effective approaches to body work, designed specifically for those living with Parkinson’s.

Since 2014, stoPD’s mission has been to improve the quality of life of those living with Parkinson’s Disease through research, exercise programs, support and education in New York and Los Angeles. But none of this would be possible without the support of friends like you.
Now as you plan your tax year-end giving, we ask that you play a leading role in helping us to ensure our future by making a contribution and being as generous as you can. You can Click here to make a donation or send a check to stoPD, 242 W 53 St. Ste 14G, NY, NY 10019.

We sincerely hope that you will partner with us on these vital initiatives with your gift of $100, $250, $500 or more. Your contribution is tax deductible to the fullest extent of the law and will make such a significant difference in improving the lives of those living with Parkinson’s.

We would like to take this opportunity to wish you and your family a happy and HEALTHY New Year...and to thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your support!

Warmly,

Dr. Roberta Marongiu, President and Co-Founder
Alex Montaldo, Secretary, Co-Founder and Programs Director
