The Music Teachers National Association (MTNA) Board of Directors selected Melvin Stecher and Norman Horowitz as the recipients of the 2023 MTNA Achievement Award. This award is MTNA’s highest honor, only bestowed upon individuals and entities that have made significant and lasting contributions to music and to the music teaching profession. Past individuals to receive this honor include Van Cliburn, Dave Brubeck, Leon Fleischer, Ross Lee Finney, Henry Steinway, William Bolcom, Menahem Pressler, Byron Janis and Emanuel Ax.
Stecher and Horowitz have made the world a better place for thousands of individuals around the globe, especially young people, to enjoy the life-changing and unforgettable experience brought about by their lifework. Just 10 years ago, MTNA recognized their important and valuable leadership skills with the MTNA Citation for Leadership at the 2012 MTNA National Conference in New York City. MTNA is delighted to confer upon Stecher and Horowitz its highest honor, the 2023 MTNA Achievement Award.
