That's uncharted territory for a Democratic primary.

"Affordable high-quality child care is an idea that should appeal to everyone... It’s good for workers and employers, for communities and families and children. It would create lots of jobs. It would allow lots of people to go to work. It would raise incomes and relieve a lot of stress and unhappiness and give children a good start in life..."

It's a "new day in Albany,..." it's time to !

ALBANY - The recurring fight in Albany over child care funding may have a different outcome this year with Democratic control of the state Senate.

New York State ranks among the most expensive states for child care in the nation. The average cost for full-time center-based care is $15,000 a year for an infant, and more than $13,000 for a toddler, preschooler or school-age child.

New York can't afford to ignore this growing crisis and must invest in child care this year. However, this increased investment must also allow for higher reimbursement rates for child care providers. The average median wage for a child care educator in New York is $12.38 an hour or $25,760 per year. Nearly 60% of people who teach and care for our youngest children are eligible for and participate in some type of public benefit. Provider reimbursement rates must reflect the true cost of providing quality care.

New York needs safe, accessible, and affordable child care. It’s time to & .
