Moment NYC - The Museum of Music & Entertainment in New York City Exploring the past, present and future of music in New York City We produce interactive education programs, exhibits, and community­ centered events.

MOMENT’s mission is to preserve the history of New York City music diversity and independent music culture through exhibit, education and performance. MOMENT looks at all aspects of music and musical entertainment throughout NYC’s history including writing, performing, recording, broadcast, historic venues, communities and musical theater, spanning from the earliest records to the present day. NYC

has long been the center of musical innovation and a touchstone for countless generations of musicians and musical movements. Landmarks such as Tin Pan Alley, the Brill Building, Broadway, The Apollo, Carnegie Hall, CBGBs, Studio 54, The Palladium, and Paradise Garage have all called this city home. From the days of Vaudeville through the many phases of Jazz, from the Beatniks to the Folk Revival, from Ultra-modernism and Avant-garde to Minimalism, from Salsa to Disco, Punk to Indie, Funk to Hip Hop and House to Electronica, NYC has always been a place identified with music. MOMENT New York represents a 100+ year legacy for New Yorkers and music lovers around the world. Born from the cultural melting pot that is synonymous with its name, New York City's unique status in the world of music and musical entertainment is perhaps the best example of the creative power of diversity. MOMENT contextualizes New York’s uniquely significant musical history and its contemporary identity as a city that joins creativity, commerce, and community in a unified, comprehensive history, helping all who know New York to connect important moments, movements and musicians to their own personal histories and imagination. Operating in tandem with educators, musicians, venues, and institutions of knowledge both official and informal, MOMENT celebrates New York’s native culture, provides a resource for scholars, inspiration for young artists, and safeguards an evolving legacy for future generations to discover and nurture.

On this date in 1949, the Charlie Parker Quintet started a 12 night run of shows at the Savoy Royal Roost in New York City.
