Hip to Hip Theatre Company

Hip to Hip Theatre Company Hip to Hip is a non-profit that performs free, professional productions of classic plays.

Inspired by the legacy of Joseph Papp’s New York Shakespeare Festival, for the past eight years, Hip to Hip has offered an annual program of “Free Shakespeare in the Park”. This program consists of touring two professional productions to twelve public parks, with an emphasis on underserved and underprivileged communities in the outer boroughs of New York City. Hip to Hip provides its beneficiaries

with a total theatrical experience, including great plays, professional actors, sets, lights and sumptuous costumes. The companion piece to our core programming is the children’s workshop “Kids & the Classics”. This workshop is offered before every performance, and it gives children of all ages a taste of the magic of live theatre by introducing them to classical text and performance, and providing instruction in various artistic and technical elements of production. Hip to Hip operates on the following core beliefs:

Theatre is a celebration of community spirit;

Great plays and performances have the power to change lives;

Theatre should be accessible to the widest possible audience;
