The Abdorrahman Boroumand Center for Human Rights in Iran announced last Tuesday that they believe they have identified as many as 540 people killed or abducted abroad by Iran’s security forces in the last 40 years.

Iranian athletes who have fled the country are urging the Olympic Organizers to investigate Iranian authorities for abuse.

A number of former Iranian athletes who have fled the country are urging the Olympic Organizers to investigate the Iranian regime for violating the Olympic Charter by abusing its athletes. Several of these athletes have been galvanized to come forward in unison following the September 2020 ex*****on of Wrestler Navid Afkari for allegedly killing a security guard during anti-government protests in 2018. Afkari claimed that he had confessed under torture and did not actually kill the guard.

A joint letter was published by human rights and academic groups calling for the release of Dr. Ahmadreza Djalali, who has been imprisoned in Iran for 5 years under deplorable conditions on dubious charges.

14 human rights and academic groups published a joint letter today calling on the US, EU, and European State governments to act to secure the release of Dr. Ahmadreza Djalali. Dr. Djalali is a Swedish-Iranian scholar noted for his work on disaster medicine. He was arrested during a visit to Iran in April 2016. According to the letter his death sentence on the charge of “corruption on earth” is based on unsubstantiated claims that he provided intelligence to Israeli authorities. The letter goes on to state that he has spent months at a time in solitary confinement and been denied medical care for a number of conditions. In March 2021 UN Human Rights experts stated that he was near death.

10 Human Rights groups send joint letter urging further action against Iranian persecution against dissidents both inside and outside Iran

Reacting to the indictment of Iranian nationals on charges of conspiring to kidnap an Iranian dissident living in New York, 10 Human Rights groups cosigned a letter urging stronger action from world governments. The letter makes clear that this was not an isolated incident and provides further examples of similar activity by the Iranian government. It goes on to ask both world governments and the UN to take legal and political action to prosecute such action.

Iranian NGO writes to UN official asking them to step in as Iranian police open fire on peaceful protesters.

The Defenders of Human Rights Center sent a letter to Michelle Bachelet, the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights asking her to use any means possible to prevent Iranian security forces from using force against protesters. The letter was in response to security forces firing at peaceful protestors in the Khuzestan Province with conventional weapons in addition to riot control devices. The letter contends that the protests were peaceful and in accordance with Iranian law leaving no justification for any force being used. As of now 3 people are reported dead with numerous injuries and arrests.
